Connecting water supply to toilet cistern

Thanks. I think a 150mm flexi will be too short. Been looking to see if I can buy a short length of copper pipe with a BSP on one end, then I could cut the other end to the length I want.......can't seem to find anything like this though. I can't reduce the length of the water supply feed. It...

Connecting water supply to toilet cistern

Hi, I am replacing a toilet. My water supply is from a compression joint about 15cm more or less directly below the cistern entry point which is a male plastic thread. I had hoped to use a flexible connector but the shortest I have seen is 30cm which is too long. What are the alternatives...

Smoothing a cement repair on concrete floor

Today I have repaired a couple of shallow holes in a concrete floor in preparation for new cushion flooring. I used a rapid setting mortar mix and managed to get a fairly smooth result. I then left the repair for an hour until semi-firm then got a good finish by smoothing with a wet trowel...

Butting a skirting board to another at 90 degrees

Thanks lostinthelight, I think your link describes exactly what I need to do. I can't quite get my head around Step 2, and cutting the shaped part with the coping saw but I have some spare skirting so will practice on it tomorrow and if necessary read up a bit more on scribed joints. I'll also...

Butting a skirting board to another at 90 degrees

I have boxed in some pipes in my bathroom by making a false wall a few inches forward from the existing wall. All the existing walls have skirting boards. I now need to butt a new piece of skirting board at an angle of 90 degres against the existing skirting board which continues into the...

    Wall hung sink support

Thanks dilalio. I have attached 2x2 batons to the inner side vertical frame as these appear to be very solid. I then cut a piece of ply to fit over the whole gap and will attach to my new side batons. I had intended inserting a bolt through the rear of my ply fascia panel to mount the sink...

    Wall hung sink support

Hoping for some advice please. I am replacing a pedestal sink with a wall hung sink, attaching it to a internal hollow plasterboard wall. I have read many posts about the necessity to add some horizontal noggins behind the plasterboard. My challenge is that my wall is only 50 cm wide and there...

Best way to smooth sand and cement repair

Thank you for all the tips. I think I will apply the mortar round the manhole, smooth as best I can, leave for about one hour, then smooth the mortar with a trowel dipping it in a bucket of water every few stokes to help get the mortar really smooth. Practice makes perfect!

Best way to smooth sand and cement repair

Thanks KenGMac and 23vc, much appreciate your advice. Yes, I am using mortar. A bucket of sand and cement mix from Wickes which you just add water to. When I have done a similar job before, I used a trowel to get the mortar around the manhole cover and managed to get it fairly smooth. But just...

    Fluorescent ceiling light in kitchen

Thanks for the suggestions, all very helpful. I'm not keen to make a new hole in the ceiling...it's not my house so trying for minimal disruption. At least, it seems, I am not missing an obviously simple solution, which is reassuring, so really appreciate all the feedback. Think I will shop...

    Fluorescent ceiling light in kitchen

Thanks ktuludays. Unfortunately the control gear (if that's the right name) is attached to the inside centre of the baton, so I can't drill through the centre. I was thinking about putting a couple of spacers/rubber washers when attaching the baton to the ceiling, but conscious this would then...

    Fluorescent ceiling light in kitchen

Hi I am replacing a fluorescent ceiling kitchen light. The existing light has a central access point for the wiring in the baton so this can fed straight into the baton. The new light has 2 access points but they are on the left and on the right. As a result, I am having difficulty running the...

Changing a light bulb on a Ducal Welsh Dresser

It's actually just 2 straight prongs. It looks like the same as a G4 although the gap between the pins is less and the pins are shorter. Not sure if that is still a G4. It is marked as OSRAM 64415 which suggests on Google it's a G4. I will take a trip to the local lighting shop to try and match...

Changing a light bulb on a Ducal Welsh Dresser

I have managed to remove the complete fitting by bending back the 3 tabs and tapping gently from above with a hammer and small piece of wood. Once out, I could see that in fact, the plastic outer ring (photo 1) was removable as it was clipped in, however, access to prising this out would have...

Changing a light bulb on a Ducal Welsh Dresser

Wow, thanks everyone for such quick replies and for the suggestions. The chrome ring (from the underside) seems to be held firm and I have not been able to twist or turn it. I have tried to lever it gently, but there is no movement at all. There are 3 metal tabs in the recess above, so I think...

Changing a light bulb on a Ducal Welsh Dresser

Hi, Hope someone can help me please. The light on our Ducal Welsh Dresser has stopped working so I would like to replace it but am unsure how to access it. The power comes from a transformer that is then fed through the top of the dresser and the bulb and cover are in a recess in the top of...
