    New sockets off ring main

So you'd be happy with this arrangement too Yes I totally agree we desperately NEED to get back to our electricians understanding what they are doing and not just blindly following the leader as so many do and it's demonstrated by how many idiots post videos of 'how good I am' on youtube...

    New sockets off ring main

I certainly do not disagree. All you have done is turned the red bit into the 'loop' of a a lollipop circuit (with no apparent advantage) - but it remains true that the red bits are totally compliant with BS 7671 (nothing in BS 7671 says that one can't turn a radial into a ring, but adding a...

    Extending a Ring Circuit

I see nothing in the regs which say that they cannot or should not be used, provided that the CSA of the cable forming the 'stick' of the lollipop (i.e. from OPD to 'the ring' is adequate - which will usually require it to have a greater CSA than the cable of the ring' itself. I have one is my...

    Extending a Ring Circuit

...the extra sockets in, and since there was an electrician on site it seems highly unlikely it was a DIY job. There has been debate about lollipop systems, when I did my C&G 2391 I was taught to test for them, and to list as a fault, however I can find no regulation to say should not be used...

    Extending a Ring Circuit

Indeed. The latter is the obvious first step - if there is only one cable at the origin, it cannot be a ring (but it could, I suppose, be a 'lollipop' circuit). If there are two cables, then, as you say, continuity tests will establish whether it is an (intact) ring (rather than two radials...

I can see why Yale moved on from the jumpers - Fiddle f@rt things ! 35 Deg in Suffolk now, so time for a lollipop & a siesta  It went up to 38.1 deg...

Plasterboard - Just how mad would you think I was if you saw me do this in a car park?

I would need to inspect this wall for plumb, level, gauge and condition of the pointing first, to confirm suitability for this use. It would probably fail the inspection. :cautious:

Plasterboard - Just how mad would you think I was if you saw me do this in a car park?

Fascist! Come the revolution, comrade, you'll be first against the wall - along with the dog walkers and the lollipop ladies with their placards telling us all to stop children!

Re affixing door handle screws - holes too big?

...poo and are hollow around the lock area. Are there any products on the market that would act like a rawlplug for this situation? The current method of stuffing the hole with cocktail/lollipop sticks is imo not good enough and they soon come out again. Any suggestions (bar replacing the...

2 ring finals on one RCBO

...X 13A you would be OK provided the socket terminations were rated for the current received via ring/radial/joint box combination. Hence the lollipop (or Lassoo) circuit which some frown on but perfectly acceptable, often a result of creating a new kitchen ring from a redundant cooker circuit

House-Wide Second Ring with Isolation via Contactor

I did mine as a variation on the 'lollipop' circuit - 6mm^2 from the OCPD to the switch & the two legs of the 2.5mm^2 ring leaving the switch terminals. I'm sure you can get a mechanically latched contactor - one 'pulse' to latch it ON & a second to release the latch. The coil consuming no...

Bay Laurel tree that need trimmings

...outside then. (Probably not right time) I used hand shears and hedge cutters, and a bow saw... everything grew back a treat. I did mine lollipop style by cutting off the lower branches and moving up yearly. so most of the growth was in the top third. I needed A scaffolding tower/ladders...

    Blank Plate for Pull Switch

Assuming there is just a hole and no wiring in the area, several lollipop sticks with a bit of string on the centre. Radial Circuit in Garage - Change to Ring?

Fair enough, and that's certainly what I would have suggested (unlike some, I personally have no particular problem with 'lollipop' circuits - and, indeed, have some in my house). Quite part from the fact that it may represent the 'contentious in some people's eyes" circuit we have been...

sanity check - adding sockets to garage

I think I've confused this with another thread as I thought something like this had been suggested. As winston says the 30A fuses will take longer than the 32A MCB to trip, the same is potentially true for the 15A fuse too. If you wish to retain additional protection in the garage you will do...

sanity check - adding sockets to garage

...MCBs are much faster. Just get rid of the local fuse box and connect all the sockets on one ring starting and ending where the SWA enters. This is known as a lollipop circuit. Run your lights from a switched FCU with a 5 amp fuse from the same ring. The switch can double as your light switch.

    Connecting fridge to cooker circuit.

...methods, this is how I got around the problem in mothers house. In the main a cooker uses a 32 amp supply, so most likely is what we call a lollipop, where the ring is taken from the cooker supply, easy way to connect is a double cooker outlet which will allow the large likely 4mm² or 6mm²...
