    disabled door

You mean exterior door? Wickes do one that has a very low threshold. Look on their site for their Part M compliant door. Can't vouch for the quality but it's a place to start.

When Does A Circuit Get Energised?

I thought wiring regs were the guidance for building regs? So surely if it meets building regs then it must meet wiring regs?

When Does A Circuit Get Energised?

I think I'm going to have to do that as it all seems confusing!

When Does A Circuit Get Energised?

Thanks, although I'm abit worried by the response, as it sounds like it'll be confusing to explain to someone exactly what I need to the electrician! I'm pretty sure an EIC isn't issued - I'm the one who's designing it, and a separate person (electrician) will be testing + energising, and a...

When Does A Circuit Get Energised?

Hi, I'm rewiring my house and having informed LABC there are three steps: 1) BCO First Fix Inspection 2) Testing (will be getting an electrician in to conduct a PIR) 3) BCO final inspection and test If the PIR comes back that it's a safe and satisfactory installation can I energise the...

Been in a year now time to do some work on the house!

Typically, the two are mutually exclusive! I'm a fan of the tear it up and make it meet modern day styles and lifesryles approach.

    Turning a bedrrom into a bedroom/bathroom

I'm in the process of doing this at the moment. I've had to sister all the joists to take the increased load. If you can, put a stack to the side of the house - the thought of running a soil pipe through the house not only makes me uncomfortable but also remember you can't have it flat, so...

Is that the one that got rejected? Or the new proposed one? What were the reasons for refusal?

    Stair LEDS

I remember one guy who had an automation system setup was talking about linking the RGB lights in his house to his alarm. So when the alarm went off the zone that was activated would flash red and the zones inbetween where he was and the burglar would light in white light so he could make his...

Doubling a floor joist with cables going through

You could use maintenance free junction box either side as well. Can probably do it for less than a tenner that way. Just make sure you isolate the electrics before you start cutting.

I'm pretty sure there is a law/covenant etc that states other people have legal access to your property to maintain their own property. AFAIK this cannot be revoked.... I would look up that first.

Whole Flat Refurb - Starting Soon!

No - carry out all the work that needs BC approval (if any) so you can get the Certificate then when you've got it, hack the plaster off. You only need to put it on external walls....so you don't lose it off every wall. I'm losing 100mm (I went for larger batterns so it's sturdier and can...

Whole Flat Refurb - Starting Soon!

It's easier just to get the building notice signed and then hack off the plaster. I'm updating all insulation and probably set me back by £1500 so far on a 3 bed semi.

    Layout of Bathroom downlighing

They wouldn't accept my Electronic And Electrical Eng degree! And to be honest I kind of accept that.....we were never taught about safe zones (amongst other things....)

Is there an arch in the brick work? If not, yes you'll need a lintel.

    Tiling Before Structural Works?

Hi, I'm having a new window and door put in, both require new lintels and thus propping up etc. The room above is the bathroom and I'm keen to get it done ASAP so I can move in. I'm using a flexible adhesive and tiling onto aquapanel and moisture resistant PB - am I alright to start the...
