Newly hung doors hard to close that last bit

So after removing the door half a dozen times it turns out sircerebus666 was right..oops sorry :giggle: There was a very slight bevel on just 6cm of door near the bottom hinge. Only spotted after shining a torch round the door when closed. Appreciate the help, lesson learnt, turns out the first...

Newly hung doors hard to close that last bit

Ahhh I seeeeeee. So I removed the added cardboard from the bottom hinge and its now 99% there. So I guess I've mis aligned them somewhere. I'll keep playing with them for a while or maybe just live with the 1% annoyance. Thanks for your advice much appreciated. Doors are hard :/

Newly hung doors hard to close that last bit

Yes I think it did make it worse Doors as straight as my level (although the door frames are anything but!) Removed each hinge in turn but no improvement. When you say to close together do you mean I just move the top and bottom hinges further apart?

Newly hung doors hard to close that last bit

Hmmm I can't see any bevel. I just tried placing some cardboard under the hinges on the door frame side to push them out a little but its still the same. Dam

Newly hung doors hard to close that last bit

Hi, I've just hung 4 new internal doors. 2 of them seem a little difficult to close just the very last bit...I mean they close fine 97% of the way then that last 3% they get a little tough. If I close them all the way they spring back the 3% so they sit slightly ajar. I can't see anywhere they...

Can I add 2 branches on a lighting circuit?

Bring the supply to the switch!! I didn't consider that a more elegant solution. I'm going to have to draw this on paper and find a wiring diagram online...took me a while to understand my current lighting circuit as is, thanks. Oh the 4th cable is for the light bulb!:D

Can I add 2 branches on a lighting circuit?

Agreed design is probably not the best. Yes 3 lights 3 switches (old kitchen light plus under cupboards LEDs and over hob spot lights). You're right ceiling roses are most practical but just don't fit in a modern sleek kitchen :/

Can I add 2 branches on a lighting circuit?

Looks like a decent bit of kit but I need a box that can handle 8 wires! 4 wires already in the ceiling rose, 2 new wires for the extra lighting and 2 switch wires. I'm coming down through the floorboards!

Can I add 2 branches on a lighting circuit?

They are junction boxes but not compatible with many modern light fittings. Need junction box hidden

Can I add 2 branches on a lighting circuit?

Hi, I’m trying to work out a way to add 2 new lighting circuits in my kitchen. I was thinking of replacing a ceiling rose with a junction box then running 2 new branches from the box for each light. Providing the connectors, junction box and cables are correct size would this be ok? thanks

Installing chased cable outside prescribed safe zones

Hi, I'd like to install a new lighting circuit for under kitchen cupboard LED's. The cable would run vertically down the wall to the cupboard, then go horizontal to the next cupboard, chased into the wall under sheathing. Am I right in thinking this is permissible outside the safe zone's...

Replace PVC door with wood but keep PVC windows

Couldn't agree more There is a local shop that sells different coloured paint for PVC, is something we've considered but bit of a gamble as to what the finish would be like

Replace PVC door with wood but keep PVC windows

Ok I think you've talked me into ditching this idea. I do maintain that these 'wood effect' doors look nothing like wood. Maybe from 5 meters away but get up close they are clearly plastic. Then there is the feel...every time you close it you know its a plastic door! Agree PVC is offers better...

Replace PVC door with wood but keep PVC windows

Good point about the different materials behaving differently that is a very real concern True I will loose 4cm from the height but will gain 4cm from removing the pvc trip hazard at the bottom. i just don't like PVC or composite doors! having a big piece of plastic stuck to the front of the...

Replace PVC door with wood but keep PVC windows

Hi, I want to replace our PVC front door with a wooden one but keep the PVC windows next to it. I'd cut the door PVC frame out then fix new wooden door frame (highlighted yellow in pic), obviously keeping all the window frames. Can’t think of any reason why this shouldn’t be possible but...

    Plastering over wooden window reveals

I did remove one of these but there was a fair amount of making good as it took quite a bit of the surrounding plaster with it. People have said it will still crack after being tapped, maybe not at first but 6 months down the line. I’ve seen suggestions of using bitumen paint to first seal the...

    Plastering over wooden window reveals

Thanks, be an easy fix to screw board round the inside of the windows but what about the other side? should I board the whole wall or leave it as is? Took one of the wooden pieces off, a whole lot of plaster and wall came off with it :/ I have about 15 windows and door frames to do :O

    Plastering over wooden window reveals

Hi, I'm prepping the walls for the plasterer to come skim. Its a lath and plaster house with wood round the corner of windows (see pic). Plasterer says you can skrim tape them, then place the metal reveals over the top. From what I've gathered online this may lead to cracking Can anyone...

Hi, I'm planning on a new security light, the new cable would have to run exposed for about 2 meters outside. Is there a specific weather poof type cable I need to use? thanks
