    Sloped ground foundations for garage

If you do put the mesh in raise it upto the middle of the slab using broken engineering bricks (so concrete can flow underneath and above it). Also remember to tie the reinforcing mesh to one another using wire.

    CLS Sideways

The studwork timber from wickes is normally pretty grotty or twisted/bowed. The merchants like jewsons and travis perkins seem to have a slightly thicker profile and less twists or bows in the wood. You can go in there and setup a trade cash account even if your not in the trade. It entitles you...

    Sloped ground foundations for garage

Maybe throw in some reinforcing mesh for good measure. Also remember to put in some membrane between the type1 and the slab. You could blind it with sand or just add thicker membrane

Front door colour advice...wooden door and PVC windows dilemma

I forgot to mention I already have bought an oak door and the wood for the frame. I might swap the windows out in the future but was really trying to make it look acceptable for a couple of years whilst I decide. The current PVC door has a split skin and full of chips. Not to mention is hung...

Front door colour advice...wooden door and PVC windows dilemma

Hi all, I have a property with rosewood upvc windows and front door with side panel. The door has seen better days so I want to swap it out with a wooden one set into a wooden frame. The windows are fine though and their colour is rosewood (a kind of dark brown pvc wood effect). Ive been looking...

New wicket boundary fence. What side do I show my neighbours?

Thanks for the replies guys. I think for the boundary fence im going to do it double sided as the pickets/wickets dont cost much anyhow. On a related note what is the difference between picket and wickets? My fencing supplier calls them wickets so I was led to believe pickets are the smaller...

Change roof frame layout for more loft space?

Heres some pics that hopefully show the situation. Ive also just realised I posted this in the wrong forum though its still related to roofing I guess.

New wicket boundary fence. What side do I show my neighbours?

In normal fencing terms I show the neighbours the "nice" side of the fence. Is this the same logic for wicket fencing? Thanks

Change roof frame layout for more loft space?

Im wondering if I can change the frame design of my roof to allow more space in the loft. Its a good size and you can stand up in it. However there are some rafters in the centre that use up alot of the walkable space. If I doubled up the others and added a load of new braces to triangulate the...

    Cost of ceiling

About 6-8 sheets of 9.5mm plasterboard, some scrimm tape and filler. Oh and long plasterboard screws. A stepladder and a few glances in the loft (if it is an upstairs room) or use stud detector. So under £60 of materials but maybe a day or two of labour depending on the builder and depending on...

    Chicken Run

I own 35 chickens and have them spread out accross 3 seperate runs. We have 2 metre high enclosures with meshed tops and meshed sides. Then welded square mesh from ground upto about a metre tall (double meshed basically). There is a 40cm deep concrete trench going all the way around and gravel...

Security solution for side gates... any ideas?

Great, cheers John. Sounds like thats what I need. Although keyed alike bike chains would be even better.... best of both worlds. The gates I have to lock are the black wrought iron types.

Security solution for side gates... any ideas?

Ive just realised that keyed alike seems to be multiple keys for one padlock. I need almost the opposite, 3 padlocks that take the same key but obviously to have a spare key also. I'll keep searching if not i'll revert back to the bike lock idea. I also like the 5 digit combination bike locks...

Security solution for side gates... any ideas?

Thanks SFK. I think resettable is the search term I was missing. I kept searching for changable. Those options are good but a little bit more than I wanted to pay as I know the technology behind these is cheap. I have bought some for just under £2 each that said in the instructions they can be...

Security solution for side gates... any ideas?

I have 3 metal side gates down the side of an outbuilding. I need to lock these but without a key. So I was thinking a bike combination lock but all the ones I have viewed on ebay seem to be set codes and cant be changed. Anyone know some that are changable? I have already bought 6 bike locks...
