Advice please on re-plastering a Chimney Breast

Thanks for the reply. When you say applied as a basecoat you've lost me. I was thinking your option was to do a sand/cement render with waterproofer mixed in. This would replace the plaster I've hacked off. So would be around 10mm thick. I'd then have the whole wall skimmed again.

Advice please on re-plastering a Chimney Breast

Thanks for the info. Looks like the previous occupant has decided the other flue (with no terminal) has adequate ventilation with the two airbricks, and the other flue has adequate ventilation with just the capping cowl. When I was referring to replacing the "capping" I was talking about I...

Advice please on re-plastering a Chimney Breast

Here's some photos (below) of the external from the work we did in the summer. The stack was re-pointed, lead work checked, capping replaced to rule that out, ventilation already was in place. The chimney has been sealed since I bought the house 9 years ago, so not sure if it was swept. Yes the...

Advice please on re-plastering a Chimney Breast

Thanks. So you wouldn’t bother trying to board it off the wall at all? I was going down that road as it felt like belt and braces. I only want to do this once. Do you have any recommendation on render and waterproofer? Standard Sand and cement? What about some of the tanking slurry options like...

Advice please on re-plastering a Chimney Breast

Yes it’s vented top and bottom with external air bricks. Also the cap is vented. I’ve spent a lot of time on the outside. Now the plaster is off you wouldn’t even know there was or had been any damp. For whatever reason there must be moisture in the chimney and it’s picking the weak spot in the...

Advice please on re-plastering a Chimney Breast

Hi all, Looking for a bit of advice here. I have a few damp spots on a chimney breast in a bedroom. I've tackled this a number of times from the outside with a new cap on the chimney, re-pointing the whole chimney stack, ventilation improvements etc. I just can't get rid of these spots. So I'm...

    Roof advice for Lean To

Thanks for the reply Woody. Not sure whether your opening comment is sarcasm or genuine, but thanks for the feedback. I've only done the one extension (the largest one) since living there with the tiles on the main roof being reclaimed to match in, and the tiles on the lower roof extension being...

    Roof advice for Lean To

Hi, I don't think the colour/style needs to be a match of my other roofs, as long as it compliments it. I've posted a picture below of the back of the house. It is that right hand side gap that I want to make into a lean to storage space. The roof will start a foot or two lower than the...

    Roof advice for Lean To

Hi all, I'm looking to build a "lean to" shed at the side of my house. This will actually push into an L shape at the back of my house so both the long wall and end of the "shed" will be in place using the exterior walls of the house. The structure will be about 3.8m long and 1.3m wide. I'm...

Laminate Floor options for Kitchen. QuickStep, Krono etc

Hi all, Hoping for someone who has worked with the various higher end "click" laminates out there can offer some advice. I've personally put down Quick Step Impressive Ultra in my kitchen a couple of years ago. I was sold by the quality feel of the product as well as it's good handling of...

Paint "bumping up" over areas where filler used

Thought I'd post a quick message to close this out. @darkan9el Yes it was sanded enough. If you closed your eyes and ran your fingers over these areas you wouldn't be able to tell it had been filled and sanded at all. I've done this sort of thing many times. @Nige F Many thanks for the advise...

Paint "bumping up" over areas where filler used

Hey all, I've been attemping to repair some cracks in a wall (small cracks in plaster caused by building works movement). I've cut out the cracks in a "V" shape and used gyproc easi-fill to fill. This is a product I've used before with success. Anyway after sanding down to a nice smooth...

    Karndean Adhesive advice for bathroom

Thank you. One last question. F44 comes in a 1 litre size too, which supposedly does 4m2. Are their coverage estimates accurate or do I need 2.5 litres? The area is between 2 and 2.5m2. Thanks.

    Karndean Adhesive advice for bathroom

Thanks Daz. F49 would be overkill then? When laying onto Ply do you bother priming or skimming the nail heads and joins before applying the adhesive? Cheers.

    Karndean Adhesive advice for bathroom

Thanks for the reply. Isn't F44 the equivalent of Karndean's Acrylic adhesive? I was thinking I needed to avoid that in a moisture based environment?

    Pre-tiling plaster alternative

Hi all, I'm doing a bathroom refit. When gutting the existing tiles, I'm left with quite a lot of areas that need patching/building up before tiling. I've also got a couple of small bare brick areas where I'm removed old boxing. I don't really have the time to plaster and wait before tiling...

    22mm hot for my bath...

I think I'll T my existing pump for the ensuite shower and run a feed from there. I still have a couple of questions on that: 1. Do I need to run a pumped feed for just the hot to the valve or the cold as well? 2. 22mm feed or is 15mm ok? The valve entries are 1/2" BSP. Cheers

    22mm hot for my bath...

Tank and pump are on loft floor which will be around 2m higher than where this valve is going in the bathroom.
