    Ancient wiring

I'd be more concerned with having the electrical installation inspected and tested rather than fitting different light fittings. Not sure I've ever seen cable with only red and white cores, except for speaker cables.

Another vote here for stainless steel conduit.

    Wylex plug in mcb availability

The cable entry holes are a lot smaller on the 30A ways though.

    Double socket converter

They've been about for decades! Not the most professional solution, but Ideal for DIY or a quick swap.

    Double socket converter

They are OK. I've come across many without issues.

Bathroom extractor fan what to do poor job

Why not, decent inline fans offer superior airflow through the same size duct, reduced sound levels and a longer duct run will cause additional restriction from backdraft compared to a 1' pipe through the wall. One of the first jobs I did when I moved into my current house.

Help needed for changing an old 2 way 2 gang switch with a modern touch switch

Post a photo and the model number of the new switch. Something doesn't look right there.

Bathroom extractor fan what to do poor job

Too late now, but we always try to avoid wall fans where possible. High quality in-line fans are more powerful and a lot quieter/ no back draughts etc.

Bare wire heating system gives fast heat up time, really?

Probably not great to drink from it. You can buy kettles that heat water with mains into 2 stainless steel strips. I did it with mains and 2 tea spoons a few years ago, I probably drank it at the time but don't remember any specific taste. I wonder if that's why I'm going bald...

Bare wire heating system gives fast heat up time, really?

Loads still in use! Don't forget electrode boilers either, often 3 phase!

    Willis Heating System

Totally not relevant to this thread, but last year I worked in a house where the elderly customer was frequently recording TV programs in the day to watch when she got back in from the farm in the evenings on a Philips V2000 machine. I instantly recognised the design of the tapes, of which there...

24v transformer to fit Hager CU

An adaptable box is designed to be adapted, a normal domestic consumer unit probably isn't? Though I've always argued if it has a DIN rail in it you should be able to install DIN mount devices. Yes sometimes care has to be taken with spacing for airflow around contactors, but a small lightly...

    Willis Heating System

Here is a thermal image I took during a recent call out. The cylinder is fairly tall so the top entry element only gets about half way down. This is on the ground floor and the cylinder almost touches the ceiling, to replace the element you have to take the carpet and floorboards up above. The...

24v transformer to fit Hager CU

The Ring doorbell PSU supplied with some Ring doorbells, or available separately from Ring, fits a single DIN module way. Though there are arguments saying products not type tested by the consumer unit manufacturer shouldn't be fitted in the consumer unit. Ring also make a matching surface...

The flex will be a short section from a connection point to the photocell, the cpc will be available there.

I keep 3 core flex on the van that has brown black and blue cores for photocells.
