How to fix a metal rail in a gap

I want to put a metal rail between two walls, there might be other bits too but basically a bar across the room fixed at either end. I found people selling "tube clamp" products which I think is what I want, e.g: https://www.themetalstore.co.uk/key-clamp-fittings/tube-clamp-uk-suppliers But...

    Building a simple toilet partition?

Good timing, we got it in place thinking the small size of the partition would be ok with nice 18mm ply but it's a bit too wobby for our liking. The ceiling is very high so we're going to look for some sort of strut like you see on shower screens to brace against the wall. By the way what is...

Attach a sign post to a gate post

We have a 9" gate post on the drive and want to put a sign higher than the top of it as it's not very conspicuous. I pictured a 3x2 or similar affixed to the gate post a bit like an estate agent sign but cannot for the life of me find suitable brackets. I could screw my sign post on directly...

    Building a simple toilet partition?

I think this is what we're going for give or take. So much cheaper.

    Building a simple toilet partition?

I've seen people selling all this for commercial bathrooms but as I say they cost a fortune and I'm not sure if that's because it's a special material, or just because they are big. Designed as a modular system for a whole row of cubicles. If I can find a laminate that's up to purpose the rest...

    Building a simple toilet partition?

Definitely a lot easier if it can be no more than 600mm deep I need to go mock that up :)

    Building a simple toilet partition?

That could be possible. Kitchen boards would be ideal if we could get one the right size; worktop would work except it's typically finished on one side only?

    Building a simple toilet partition?

I had a quick look and could only find grey and it's still pricey but could be an option. It's not a material I've worked with, how is its stiffness compare to ply in terms of choosing the right thickness? We don't really have the room I think to lose 3-4" though it's an interesting idea. I...

    Building a simple toilet partition?

We need to put a simple partition between two kids' loos. No doors, really just a panel affixed to the floor and wall only needs to be big enough a toddler cannot see over it. Not going to get vandalised like pub loos either ;) I can find toilet partition/cubicle fixings online quite easily...

What are the rules on replacing/removing/installing an electric oven?

Measure the UK standard? Not sure what that has to do with it.

What are the rules on replacing/removing/installing an electric oven?

Yes, you ask 'dopy' questions when you don't know things hoping an experienced person will help out. That's the whole premise of this site Plugging in a couple of wires is easy but why would I know the regulations off by heart if there's anything extra I need to do? Although it's "a bit...

What are the rules on replacing/removing/installing an electric oven?

I don't see why. I'm simply asking if there are specific rules above regular 13A type stuff that most DIY-ers handle. The ones we're looking at are more like 30A and the electrician has it on a big chunky cable running off a 32A fuse but it's an all electric cooker/hob thing. Which is why I...

What are the rules on replacing/removing/installing an electric oven?

Is this technically notifiable work that should be signed off e.g. if the sparky left the cabling in a new build could you add the oven yourself or would he be in trouble leaving the cable? Or if you get a new oven in your house are you allowed to DIY it? Technically I'm sure it's...

    Retain a small soil bank

I do have some leylandii trunks a few inches diameter which I was wondering what to do with after being felled last year. How many years do you think they'd last up against damp soil? I could get some metal rods to hammer in like I was doing a retaining wall from sleepers - might be a good option.

    Retain a small soil bank

A little wall isn't hard but would be a faff in our case and it doesn't need to be decorative which is why I am thinking something functional and ugly and cheap.

    Retain a small soil bank

We have dug down 6-12" in an area of our garden to get a flat surface to be paved. Building a retaining wall is going to be a faff and the soil is pretty solid but long-term I would like to keep it it retained. I've seen landscaping projects use wire mesh type products here, I think often...

How big a job is laying vinyl and LVT tiles?

You get some recommendations then you invite people to come and quote, ideally 3 but you always want more than one unless it's a tiny job. When we got quotes for electrical work they varied from 9 - 15k and all 3 were well-regarded local firms. Why on earth would you not get at least 2 quotes...

How big a job is laying vinyl and LVT tiles?

We'll ask... I thought the same thing which is why I wondered how big a job it is. Up here in the north-east, an independent tradesman might quite often only charge £120/day so if it's a 2-day job fair enough. It took me ages to do laminate in one large room but I had no idea what I was doing so...

How big a job is laying vinyl and LVT tiles?

I don't understand the question, why wouldn't you get multiple quotes? seems to depend on subfloor, they often recommend a super thin rubbery one. The product we're looking at has it built in anyway

How big a job is laying vinyl and LVT tiles?

I should clarify I'm only talking about fitting cost, not the flooring itself.
