    Dremel clone

My Dremel 4000 had finally died. It was never that good and when I opened it up I saw why. The mechanism for switching on and off was completely "Heath Robinson". The machine was over-complicated ant fussy - no wonder it broke. Does anyone have a recommendation for a clone that will fit the...

    Miele H5240BP: grill element dropped

Thanks all. The wife's dad, who was an engineer, came round and bound it up with thick copper wire. Perfect!

    Dutch Barn solution

Thank you. Will this work on this shingle roof where the shingles do not overlap the bargeboard?

    Dutch Barn solution

Taking a new tack, could I ask what a good solution would be for the replacement of the rotting bargeboard and verge board on my shingle roof please (not the fascia - this is ok). The building is a "Dutch Barn" style shack that SWMBO uses as a summerhouse (see pic). I'd like to use PVC or some...

PVC barge board, etc. on chalet

Thank you. I've seen some fascia boards by "Freefoam" that I thought I could use "upside down" with the return used to act like the capping board. Would this work, do you think?

PVC barge board, etc. on chalet

I have a wooden "chalet" (posh shed) that has barge boards (140x18mm) that are rotting. It also has (I don't know what they're called) strips of wood (10x20mm) screwed to the top of the barge boards that are there to keep the edges of the shingles from blowing off - these are also rotting. I...

    Lap Dancing on the Roof

I am about to replace the felt on a shed roof and have been led a merry dance around the subject of lap adhesive. Some say that a "proper" adhesive that cures is best and others say that a mastic that never really dries is best. As I am using battens to secure it anyway (high winds here) I...

    Miele H5240BP: grill element dropped

Yes, that's it. The element is ok except that the clip to the support bar has come off. Can I just replace the clip?

    Underfloor heating catastrophe

Further to this situation, I had a fantastic firm called UFH Services Ltd., in who chipped-up a tiny bit of tile and wall and put in two new sensors - magic!

    Miele H5240BP: grill element dropped

Hi, The grill element on my oven has dropped down on one side because a couple of the small clips that held it in place have failed. Is there anything I can do? Thank you.

    Underfloor heating catastrophe

I see but how do you know exactly where the heating wire is?

    Underfloor heating catastrophe

Basically, that he's happy to have a bash at repairing it but can't guarantee a successful outcome.

    Underfloor heating catastrophe

Yup. I just looked at the website and it seems that it did come with a conduit!

    Underfloor heating catastrophe

The manufacturer (DEVImat) simply say that the sensor must be replaced. Apparently, it was supposed to have been laid in a conduit for easy replacement!!! Yes, I roughly know where it is but can a tile be taken-up without damaging the heating element? I'm a reasonable DIYer but this all sounds a...

    Underfloor heating catastrophe

The floor sensor in the newly laid electric underfloor heating has failed! I can't get it out as it's in the adhesive and everyone says that you HAVE TO HAVE one. The whole floor is laid with tiles. Is there anything that I can do other than rip it all up and start again!? Thanks.

    Cable Guy

Oh. I thought that you were supposed to un-reel all of it every time? To stop heat build-up or something. Hmmm.
