    Back to wall toilet

I have all the pipework in place for a back to wall toilet (which worked prior to removing for tiling the wall). The plumber who fitted the pipework is no longer on the job. The new guy is saying that there should have been some sort of fixing framework so that the pipework behind the wall...

    Glass Blocks

Bought some glass blocks from Wickes to fill an opening near the ceiling. Given than the height of the opening is 410mm, each block is 190mm I had hoped to fill the opening 2 blocks high. Problem is getting spacers in. Theoretically it should be possible with a 10mm spacer between and 10mm on...

    kink in the gas pipe

I believe safety checks were done. I got a cert. Must say generally I have confidence in him, just worries the hell out of me seeing a kink in a gas pipe. The gas fire does work so the gas is obviously getting through.

Fitting a cooker and hob control switch

I think it's been a comedy of errors by all involved, only I'm not laughing. Trying to get hold of the electrician is impossible. He doesn't answer the phone and was out when I called round. And yes I do have a cert from him!! Whilst the kitchen fitter did a good job of the units why on...

What a relief, your comment of possibilities, including no gas, was spot on. Many thanks again

Fitting a cooker and hob control switch

That certainly makes sense. Much appreciate all the above comments. I really need to find out from the electrician why he didn't put the wire for the control unit above the work surface. It's going to be difficult getting it up the back of the work top without damaging it. Any advice...

Fitting a cooker and hob control switch

Just had a new kitchen fitted. The electrician has a 45 amp wire coming through the wall behind the cooker. He hasn't put a switch on the wall above the worksurface for switching the cooker on/off. (Think there may have been confusion with the kitchen fitter who suggested that the cooker...

    Combi Worcester 28 problem

The gas fitter is coming tomorrow. From what you said I'm wondering whether the gas was turned back on after he brazed the pipe for the gas fire. (The new gas fire is still to be fitted.)

    Wood and cement floor

Many thanks Richard, Does the decoupling membrane go over both the wood floor boards and concrete? Or what would be used for a flexible joint?

I'm tiling a floor that's half floorboard and half cement. Can I cover both straight over with 9mm ply? Many thanks

    Combi Worcester 28 problem

When trying to switch on the boiler it won't ignite. The green light goes on momentarilly, the blue light comes on, after a few moments the reset light comes on and the spanner light. Both go out, the boiler light stays blue for a little while and thenflashes and the reset button comes on...

    Tiling Uneven walls

H Richard, I think it may be more than 12mm at the top. Beginning to think I should put plasterboard on the wall (will be better for tiling). Would I need to attach it to laths or could it be pinned straight to the wall, with packing in the corner to give a straight edge? Many thanks Sophiejazz

    Tiling Uneven walls

I'm about to start tiling an uneven wall in an old house and would prefer not to go to the expense of having it skimmed. It's well out in the corner. Could I use a metal strip (that plasterers use) to make a relative straight edge and build up to it with anything to make the wall straighter...
