    Servicing my Vaillant boiler

By completing paperwork, do you mean where he fills in the service record so that my warranty remains intact? Because that's mostly what I'm doing this for.

    Servicing my Vaillant boiler

Well let's see if Tony confirms or denies that. He didn't mention what you just said and he would have serviced it for about £65. The engineer I've arranged with didn't warn me of any pre-service inspection, I asked him to service the boiler and that's what he said it would cost. He also said he...

    Servicing my Vaillant boiler

And thanks for your input too btw, ianmcd. I didn't realise the key words are 'commissioning date' until I saw your post then looked at my checklist :)

    Servicing my Vaillant boiler

Hi Tony, I misread. Here's a photo of the benchmark commission checklist. http://i.imgur.com/DaLCOyj.jpg Hope the image doesn't show upside down, it was for me but I think it's sorted now. Thanks to you mentioning £65 and local engineers, I just arranged a service with a gas safe...

    Servicing my Vaillant boiler

I've just located the commissioning checklist and service record pages at the back of my Vaillant installation and maintenance manual. Seems I'm a bit premature as the commission date is 11th Jan 2013. The system was installed weeks before that but he took ages to come back and fill in the...

    Servicing my Vaillant boiler

Hi Tony. The engineer did a good job but was always difficult to get hold of when he needed to come back and finish things. Consequently we sort of fell out and now he doesn't answer my calls. He was originally going to come back and do the service, I think he said he charges £80 to £90. For...

    Servicing my Vaillant boiler

Right but how much should I expect to pay and must it be done before the end of the year?

    Servicing my Vaillant boiler

Hi guys, I've got some questions about servicing the Eco TEC Plus 831 which has a 7 year warranty. A central heating engineer installed my system (4 rads, heated towel rail and Vaillant 831 combi boiler) about November last year. Haven't used the central heating that much, just a few weeks...

    Jetwashing my front brick wall

Hi chaps. Well, it only took me 4 months to get around to it! :P but I did it today. First time I've used a jetwasher, I'm really impressed. Worked better than I thought. The wall isn't perfect but a lot better than it was. Compared to the pic of the wall in the OP, here it is now. First...

Cleaning residue from new plastic window sill

Fair enough, I'll take your word for it. But what about white spirit since I already have some? That's often mentioned to remove silicone from ceramic tiles but is it ok on plastic? I'm just wondering if it might in any way affect/dull the white surface. Probably won't but thought it worth checking.

Cleaning residue from new plastic window sill

The reviews on that product are fairly poor, and it doesn't answer my question either.

Cleaning residue from new plastic window sill

Hi. Just had a new bathroom window sill installed (been waiting months for it), it's white plastic cut to shape and glued down. There's some residue on the surface, I think it's from the silicone used around the edges. Just really wanted to know if white spirit is safe to use on plastic sills...

    Removing sticky residue of silicone

There's quite a lot of sticky residue from BAL Micromax sealant on my tiles and also in my acrylic bath. Mostly invisible but very tacky to touch. What's the best stuff to remove it so there's no stickiness? Acetone I heard is good. Also, screwfix do 'No Nonsense sealant remover' which I heard...

    Rust

Right, but I'd be happy if they or someone could supply nylon holders? There must be somewhere that has some that would fit?

    Rust

Hi guys. My LED shelf mirror in my bathroom was put up only a few months ago, cost about £75. One of the chrome holders that holds the glass shelf has started rusting. I've cleaned it up a bit but is there any stuff I can coat it with to prevent more rusting? I guess I should also get in touch...

    Jetwashing my front brick wall

Thanks for the advice guys. Right, I've been told that they look like 'Flettons' and not soft reds and should stand up to jetwashing. Tools I'll need for removing mortar joints then. Club hammer and chisel? I'm going to pretty much remove all the pointing on the other side of the wall...

    Jetwashing my front brick wall

Yep, I'll just do the pressure washer and some brick acid. What is the best order to do this? Clean it up then fix pointing, or fix broken pointing and then do the clean up?

    Jetwashing my front brick wall

Thanks, I'll definitely try it first. Also does anyone have any experience of steam cleaning brick walls? Something has just been mentioned to me elsewhere since posting. I was told, "get a specialist cleaner in - anyone who uses the "doff" system will be able to clean that right up...

    Jetwashing my front brick wall

Hi guys. I had this red brick wall built in front of my house about 20 years ago give or take, and it looks terrible now with all the various patches of discolouration and white specks. Will jetwashing clean it up sufficiently to look good again? I'm going to borrow my brother's but I'm not sure...

    Daily bathroom wipe down

Well, I wipe down most walls and all bath fittings after every shower which helps, while the fan is running. Also, I'm going to seal all the grout to make it water repellent. Because I'm aware of the condensation, I'm kind of keeping on top of it as I open the window quite a lot. Like, I opened...
