    Chubb (Union) 3R35X suitablility

Cheers Crank I have already sent them all an email explaining what happened and how to avoid it so we don't get a repeat episode. I have also in previous emails, let them all know that this lock is **** hot and they are all very secure. Looks like it backfired on me. : - )

    Repair of bay window

Vinn, thanks for giving me the component names mate. As far as the fascia and gutter not being right, you're most likely spot on (I've not had a really good look at this yet). I can't see any inside bay ceiling issues but thanks for bringing my attention to the possibility. As I don't live in...

    Repair of bay window

Thanks gingerbiscuit I've now found out that all of the render has now been removed to avoid the possibility of it falling on anyone, so a patching this small bit is now out of the question. Looks like the whole width will have to be redone. I couldn't see any signs of steel wire or rust in...

    Repair of bay window

Hi all I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the type of bay window construction in the picture attached. A chunk of what would seems to be render has fallen off from below the guttering and I need to sort it. It’s my mum’s house and she has got a quote for £500 to fix it but it seems...

    Running without inhibitor

Hi I was just wondering what best practice is regarding the number of times you should empty the system and fill it up without inhibitor. That is to say, I've been installing a rad valve, filling the system and running it to test for leaks then doing the same again. I know each time it will...

Hot water going into the F and E tank, why?

Todd mate, I feel for you. I also had shingles in adulthood, so we've got that and fu**ing chancers working on our stuff in common. I must admit your reportage made me pi** myself (in a good way). Best of luck with it. Anyone ever said you should be a writer ; - ) Let us know how you got on.

Hot water going into the F and E tank, why?

Hi Tod I found this drawing pretty good at showing the layout of an open vented system. It helped me identify each pipe in my system and try to make sense of the problem I had: http://www.muswell-hill.com/foxandco/pages/boilertypes.htm I'm not a plumber in the slightest but... - Presumably...

    Monitor Problems - Windows 8??

First port of call, I would swap a couple of other monitors in (If available) to see what happens. I've found that monitor faults can be fairly random in the way they exhibit faults. Otherwise they can be a bit picky with regards to refresh rate etc, so that's something else to play with.

Tips And Advice For Keeping Desktop PC Running Well?

Keasy has given great advice (short and sweet) and paulc2 has too, although it's much more involved. I would just like to add in the paulc2 vein, that you would benefit from: - Looking into a second internal HD to back up to (I switch mine on and off when I need it) - Read up on the...

Rad valves with and without a top gland

Quick question. Just swapped out old rad Valve that has gland nut and I was wondering if the new one is as good, as it doesn't have a gland but. Are are all modern valves glandless I wonder? If ones that have glands are better I might invest in one if they are worth having. Any thoughts? Cheers

Crossed thread - how long before LS-X has water pressure on

Impatient, huh kiljoy. I thought I might get away with half an hour or something. But seriously, thanks mate, I needed you to pull me up. Yup, no heating or hot water tonight then... My wife will say it's OK we'll boil up some water and have a bath that way, but I know what she'll really...

Hot water going into the F and E tank, why?

Hello mate, I'll probably get shot down by the infinitely more expert here but I had some trouble recently and a plumber said it was most likely a bloccked pipe from my F&E tank to the primary flow (as alluded to above). The plumber said, try blowing down the vent to see if water shoots into...

Crossed thread - how long before LS-X has water pressure on

Hi All I've just gone to swap out an old rad valve for a new one, and found a problem with the rad's thread (tail's thread looks in bad nick). So, I tried to, ah hrm, re-cut it/reform it with a thing I found made of black steel and now I've tried the new tail in the rad's thread and it's...

    Devices on boiler return pipe

Thanks JohnD Oh yeah, hadn't thought of sediment in them as they are so close to the boiler, thanks for the tip. I was also wondering about what cleaner to use - and that sounds good to me. The water I've had out so far has generally been various shades of wee colour (whilst not eating...
