Ground below beam and block floor

That topsoil has been sat under the patio and with all the infill rubble since 1972 nothing has grown there for almost 50 years...presumably nothing will grow from it... Certainly no organic matter in it.. To remove it all I will have to go down roughly 1 meter. Foundations were 1.5 so I'm just...

Ground below beam and block floor

Sorry woody, can you elaborate little please? The other two 'sections' are all Sand but this one closes to camera isn't. But it's 6 inches lower than the other two. I was planning to add a thick weed membrain to all and then cover this closes end with sand?

Ground below beam and block floor

I am just sorting the ground out before installing the beam and block floor on my extension. Instructions from beam supplier just say all vegetation should be stripped (it was a patio before so no vegetation anyway) and obviously a 150mm void is needed. So I am just levelling what I have... Lots...

    Hiring a bricklayer

OK so sounds like a price per m2 sounds like a good idea or maybe a price for whole job but it's likely I may chip in so would rather pay for either their time or piece work. Price for blocks seems to be between 16 - 20 a m2. Any idea what the price for bricks might be?

    Hiring a bricklayer

I've been given a bonus from work so have decided to spend it on hiring a bricklayer to move my diy extension forward quicker as I am struggling for time. I've found a few but how on earth do I choose?! They seem to range in price from 160 - 200 a day. Obviously it comes down to cost, quality...

Vaulted ceiling insulation over ridge beam

Sorry Woody if i wasnt clear. The question is regarding insulation below a ridge beam - in this case a Glulam (wood 360mm deep) - is it required? This directly effects the size of the window in the gable end and I want to maximise this window as much as possible. Thanks

Vaulted ceiling insulation over ridge beam

Hi all. I have some plans for an extension whihc shows a vaulted ceiling. The ridge beam is a wooden Glulam type. The insulation on the sloping surfaces is 100mm between rafters and 40mm underneath but what about the beam. What would people have under this? I see some beams are exposed so...

Beam and block floor makeup/construction - DPM placement

Yes but in that the dpm is lower than finished floor height... I guess I would just move it up? Does the dpm go all the way through wall of just tuck in above/below the dpc? Also, the dpm on a beam and block floor doesn't go down until you screed so what do you to to get in wall..? Thanks for help

Beam and block floor makeup/construction - DPM placement

Ok so I have drawn the attached image. Im not quite sure where my DPC should be going. There needs to be one under the beams that rest on the internal wall. If I did my external one at the same height then the outside floor height would sit very low so presumably I can put the external one at...
