    Bad smell from main bathroom

No sorry, I think we found out what the smell was. A new house is being built next door and we think it may be that they are working on the sewage or something.

    Bad smell from main bathroom

But the smell isn't actually coming from the bathroom where the toilet has been removed, so how come the smell is coming from the other bathroom? I don't really understand.

    Bad smell from main bathroom

We've just recently (2 months ago) moved into a new build on a development. We've started to notice a bad smell coming from the main bathroom. The smell is of sewage like when the toilet is removed and the flange is not blocked up properly. Is it possible that the toilet is not connected...

    Patching up ceiling

So does this mean all of the plaster skim coat need chipped?

    Patching up ceiling

I have taken a few pictures of the damaged plaster, you can see them here. What are your thoughts on this now that you've seen it. I think the foreman of the site is going to do it for us but I wouldn't think he's a professional plasterer, he may just do bits and pieces. Therefore I'm a bit...

    Patching up ceiling

Does the wall need primed with anything?

    Patching up ceiling

I was speaking to the site foreman yesterday when I got home from work and he said that if I chip the loose plaster away he would get it skimmed for me. He didn't mention a charge either which was good. How much should I chip away?

    Patching up ceiling

It's the landing ceiling beside the attic door. There is one light fitting but it is nowhere near the loose plaster. Does the entire ceiling need replastered or just where the loose plaster is? I'll maybe try and take a picture of it later if that's any more help?

    Patching up ceiling

Yes the piece of wood has now been removed. The house next to us is due to be plastered within the next few weeks so we could potentially get it done then. How much would you estimate a job like this would cost to do if we were to get our own plasterer in to do it?

    Patching up ceiling

We were laying loft boards in the attic yesterday and there was a piece of wooden hidden under the fiberglass insulation so when a board was laid over the top of it it pushed the plasterboard of the ceiling down and buckled the skim coat. The actual plasterboard is not damaged just the plaster...

    Porcelain tiles in en-suite

I just decided to go with the full tile straight down the middle. I have all the tiles cut and laid out on the floor so it's just a matter of getting them down proper now with adhesive. How can I ensure that the tiles will be totally flush with each other when laying them on the adhesive...

    Danfoss FP715 not holding programme

We have just moved into a new build and the installed Danfoss FP715 central heating controller doesn't seem to hold the programme that I set. I can set three programmes for the day for both Central Heating (CH) and Hot Water (HW). I set the heating to come on at 7.30pm and go off at 10.30pm, and...

    Porcelain tiles in en-suite

I've read the sticky on where to start the tiling and it says start in the middle and "walk" the tiles to the edge... However, the ensuite floor that I am tiling is very narrow and at it's narrowest point i.e. where the shower juts out, there is room for exactly two full tiles. I've taken a few...

    Porcelain tiles in en-suite

I am preparing to tile the floor of our en-suite with shiny black 20"x20" porcelain tiles. Our en-suite is upstairs so I'll be tiling onto floorboards. The floorboards are an MDF type material if I'm not mistaken, so I attached a thin layer of plywood on top of this, and I will be using flexible...

    Loft insulation regulations

We have just moved into a new build (detached) and I've noticed that the insulation in the loft is only 4" thick. Is it not regulation to have at least 8" of insulation? If so then could I just put an extra layer down on top of the exising insulation? Would it be cheeky to ask the builder to...

Tile around or behind cooker hood?

I'm thinking I should tile behind the cooker hood to give it a better finish, what do you reckon? Or is it not worth the effort of disconnecting the cooker hood?

    Tiling over tracked wall hole?

I have to track the wall in the kitchen in order to get wiring for lights on the underside of the cupboards. The tracking is only going to be about an inch wide and about 5 inches long. Should I plaster over the hole or would it be OK to fill it up with the tile adhesive?
