Best wood to use for chest of drawers?

Thanks for the info. I've ordered my wood earlier so will be having a crack at it with 18mm and 12mm and see what happens. It's going to be hidden in a cupboard anyway so at least if I mess it up I just won't tell anyone about it :-)

Best wood to use for chest of drawers?

Some great advice there. Thanks to @JobAndKnock @EddieM @johnny2007 and @Ryler That video you linked Ryler looks like it will be very handy! I think I'm going to just bite the bullet with the wood. As johnny says - probably better to have something that will last. I did think about MDF but it...

Best wood to use for chest of drawers?

Hi all, I've been dabbling with some woodwork over the last year and really enjoying it, so when my wife asked for some drawers in an upstairs cupboard I said I'd build them myself. I thought that it would be best to use 18mm plywood for the carcass and then 12mm plywood for the drawers...

What hinges for home-made arcade control panel?

Thanks for that. I've bought some "Kitchen Cabinet Lift Up Flap Top Door Hinges" from Amazon so will give them a go when they get here on Monday. Thanks for the suggestion. Your suggestion of 'coffee table hinges' (which I'd not heard of) drove me to finding those cabinet hinges which...

What hinges for home-made arcade control panel?

Thanks for that Foxhole. I did consider a piano hinge but, ideally, I didn't want a hinge on view from the top. Which, to my limited understanding, it would be. Thanks very much for taking the time to help. Much appreciated mate :-)

What hinges for home-made arcade control panel?

Thanks Ken, that's definitely worth consideration. I'm going to work on it again tomorrow weather permitting so will look into this as a possible solution.

What hinges for home-made arcade control panel?

Hi all, I'm needing to lean on your experience.... I'm currently building an arcade machine (my woodworking skills are pathetic but I'm having a go anyway!). I want the control panel to be able to lift up on hinges so I can get underneath to change buttons etc if there's any problems. I've...

What to start laying this laminate and in what direction?

Did the flooring yesterday as per everyone' s advice and it worked out great. The wife is over the moon so that's the main thing. Thanks to everyone for your advice :-) (Just got to do the skirting and the trim now and it'll be sorted) :-)

What to start laying this laminate and in what direction?

I'm going to lay laminate in this room at the weekend and wondered how you would recommend I start and which direction I should lay the laminate. Here's the room.... And here's the floorplan.... Would you recommend the boards go this way? i.e. Option "B". And, if so, which corner should...

Plug getting really hot? Is it normal?

I've checked the plug and the fuse didn't appear to be loose but I've nipped up the fuse holders anyway. Will keep an eye on it and see if I get anymore problems. Thanks to everyone for all the help. Very much appreciated :-)

Plug getting really hot? Is it normal?

Adam, do you have a plug type that you would recommend? Preferably one that I can get on Amazon.co.uk as we're in lockdown so all the shops are shut. Thanks for all the advice folks. Much appreciated.

Plug getting really hot? Is it normal?

Thanks Terry. It would be a big job to rewire this on to it's own radial circuit but I appreciate the advice. Thanks. I'll check the fuse holder. Thanks for the tip. So are you saying that it's normal Winston? Thanks :-) Does anyone know if there's something I can put between the heater...

Plug getting really hot? Is it normal?

Hi all, I have a summerhouse that has a 3KW heater in it. The other day, the heater was on, and I pulled the plug out to put it into a different socket and I noticed that the plug pins (maybe just the 'live' pin) was really hot (I couldn't touch it because it was too hot). I've switched the...

My cistern is running - not sure how to tackle the job (photos inside)

That's great Terry. Thanks for the advice. I've got a list of the dimensions from the Screwfix site so will measure up when I get home and then, all being well, I'll take the plunge and have a crack at it! I'm not confident adjusting the pipework but I'll either have a look on YouTube for advice...

My cistern is running - not sure how to tackle the job (photos inside)

Actually, no. The house was built in the early 90's. It's just that the previous owner was determined to get rid of what little hair I have left.... I was thinking if I could replace the cistern I could maybe mount it to some plywood that was wider than the cistern itself. That way I could...

My cistern is running - not sure how to tackle the job (photos inside)

Hi Spareshunter, A big thank you for the advice. Can I just clarify a couple of things.... Do you mean to cut this sealant and remove this panel? And are you talking about something like this as a replacement...

My cistern is running - not sure how to tackle the job (photos inside)

Hi all, My toilet is constantly running (not a lot - but it means that every couple of hours the cistern noisily refills which is disturbing us during the night). There's a front panel which gives me access to the cistern but, I can't get in to the top of the cistern in order to change...
