What's the most efficient way to use my gas c/h?

Details of boiler and controls? Do you have a good level of roof insulation? Have you considered changing gas supplier? Getting in others to share rent and bills might be a good move too.

    Plumbers physics?

Does it really make any difference, Tony? The object of such an exercise is to reduce frictional losses on the run to maximise dynamic pressure at the fountain nozzle, so producing more forceful spouts of water. If there is increased frictional loss from a section of smaller pipework it...

    Combi making whistling noises

Britony heat exchangers are very prone to make "airplane" noises when flow through them is restricted. At a low level this might resemble "whistling" and will occur as the boiler reaches the maximum flow temperature. Opening the boiler by-pass to the maximum might help, as a three radiator...

    Britony 80 Combi CH Issues

Sounds like a sticking diverter valve. They are very prone to fail on Britonys.

Just a Quickie..... Pedestal Basin fitting

It's up to you how secure you want to make it. If I was satisfied that the basin itself was secure I might well rely on just silicone sealant to hold the pedestal in position.

    C & M Brittony 80 making a whining noise.

If you want a manual check out the Genesis MI from the Baxi Parts Arena site. It's virtually the same boiler but the Baxi MI are much better than the Chaffoteaux ones. Includes nice diagram of the filter location.

    C & M Brittony 80 making a whining noise.

It's nothing to do with the fan. The main heat exchanger makes this noise if flow is restricted by corrosion debris, e.g. in the return filter as described. The noise occurs on high flame usually just as the max temp is approached, followed by low flame.

Split Flue Liner, debris inside Back boiler, cost to fix?

Thems was the old days, when men were men and health and safety was the name of a soft porn mag. Now we gotta have lots of expensive access equipment just in case we slip and fall off the roof. So it ain't a cheap job no more.

Worchester bosch 25si RSF water heating problem

No three way valve, so it's probably the flow switch, which when operated will shut down the heating pump. Does the red hot water light come on when a tap is opened?

    boiler flue exit hole

If you're close enough to the opening to cut the end off the lintel you're probably too close. This illustrates why you should get an RGI to do the safety critical elements of the boiler installation.

Doesn't quite add up, does it?

Which does not answer either of my questions.

    boiler flue exit hole

I'd be a bit worried about that. Are you an RGI? Do you know about the clearances to openings? Would uPVC soil pipe be regarded as combustible? I would have thought not, since the same material is acceptable for gas pipe sleeves. Also we're talking about concentric flue/air ducts so it would...

Suitable pump for a DHW secondary circulation?

If the cost difference is the best part of £100 then I don't think anyone's going to give a fig whether WRAS approve it or not. Is there any practical reason why not? Also plastic bodied pumps can be ordered through suppliers like Antares.

    Minimum standards?

The truth? And what do you think that is? Anyone publicising figures for the alleged energy savings will have a vested interest in exaggerating these. And what about the much higher maintenance costs and shorter working life?

Suitable pump for a DHW secondary circulation?

I know that bronze pumps are normally specified for DHW secondary circulation, but I recently noticed that what look that normal domestic heating pumps with plastic bodies are sometimes used for the secondary circulation on storage combis - e.g. the Saunier Duval Isomax. Can anyone think of...

    Minimum standards?

It would be interesting to know what they thought (if at all) the answer should be. We've had ACS for around 10 years now, yet three quarters of gas fitters appear to be incompetent. Something not quite working?
  19. C

    RGI's who knows the answer?

£orgi have always encouraged gas fitters to register with them. Nothing new about that. But paying for our ACS assessments? £orgi? You must be joking.
