Brush lost up the chimney :/

Another suggestion I found was to light a small fire which would loosen the bristles on the brushes grip and it would slide down the chimney

I'm sure a MOD has the ability to move it should he/she feel the need.

Brush lost up the chimney :/

I bolted a 6x8'' piece of MDF onto the end of one of the rods and sent it up the chimney trying to dislodge it, but no luck. There's no cowl fitted, just cant think of any way to get the bugger down

Brush lost up the chimney :/

As the title says. Was sweeping one of the chimneys and the brass connector failed leaving 1m of rod with a brush on the end wedged somewhere up my chimney :? Once you've all stopped laughing, would anyone have a bright idea on how I can rescue the aforementioned brush ? Cheers

    RSJ sizing

Oh, and while the thought is in my brain, what is the SE for ? Other than to sign off that the beam is the correct size? From what the middleagedun has said, the 178/102/19 is above minimum requirement, so I literally paying for a signature I'm assuming ? Trouble is I'll have to get one...

    RSJ sizing

It was Freddy, but Geriants post threw me a bit , so I thought I ought to double check that what I was doing was acceptable. Demolishing the piers then rebuilding would have been a PITA. Padstones option always appeared more straightforward to me :D

    RSJ sizing

Cheers fellas. I was planning on removing the 2400mm middle section of the wall and using the 600mm of original wall left either side as the piers removing the top few courses and installing padstones on top. Is this not feasible ?

    RSJ sizing

Hi Folks, I am wanting to turn two rooms into one. In my way is a supporting wall. The wall supports the 1st floor beams and the first floor ceiling beams. The wall is 3.6 metres wide, and I am planning on having 600mm piers at either side of the room that the RSJ will sit on. This will...

    Floor levelling

My wife has a room in the back of her shop that has a sort of rippled finish. Its a concrete floor that was obviously levelled out with a plank of wood which has left lots of little ridges. The ridges are max 10mm deep. Would self levelling compound sort these ridges out or am I looking at...

    Microsoft bogus cold calling.

Hi, I have no idea if anyone else is aware of this, but one of my customers has just called me to tell me they had been contacted by Microsoft because they had malicious software on their PC. The caller asked for the ladies husband by name, but proceeded the call with her as he wasn't in...

Damp proofing a single skin wall

Hi folks, My wife has a hair salon with a single brick external wall (no cavity obviously) with no DPC and unsurprisingly has a damp problem. What is the least destructive way of either installing a dpc of some kind, or is there another solution ?

Not a disaster as such, but could have been nasty!

Was digging out a cable in a wall that seemed to have a curious route, i.e. not horizontal or vertical , but going diagonally across the wall. Anyway, when I removed the cable this is what I found. A screw and rawplug through the cable. I am assuming that the rawplug stopped the screw...

    mood lights - I think ?

Thanks for the help guys. The lights are definitely coloured. RF, I'm not sure they are them or not, depends if they are coloured. To be honest I thought the lights would be 15mm or thereabouts. Sorry to be so vague but i have only seen them twice before. Once on an episode of DIY SOS
