    Why everyone is saying to add a socket in the loft? The previous owner didn't power the amp from there. You need a mast head amp power supply as has been linked already. This goes behind one of your TVs in living room, bedroom etc and is plugged in there, and powers the amp via the coax cable.

    We have had some issues at work recently with a 22kV/400V transformer with low oil. During the PM's HV techs remove a small amount of the oil for sampling. Trouble was, they don't refill any oil. Eventually there amount of oil was so low that the transformer tripped. I am not so close to the HV...

    If the transformer was overheating then you'd expect a buildup of gas pressure inside the transformer. This should cause the bucholz relay to trip the incoming and outgoing side CB's.

    The earth connection is also for continuity of earth to the next fitting. They (3) need to remain connected to each. They are not doing nothing.

    The blue with brown sleeve (live) to new lamp live (brown). The two blues (neut) to new lamp Neutral (blue). The three browns need to be connected together in a third terminal you'll need to provide. The earth's need to be connected together in a fourth terminal you'll need to provide.

    You need to take the neutral from the same circuit as the live. If you have RCBOs you will definitely have problems, and with twin RCD you have a chance of problems. This is called borrowed neutral.

    If all it does is make a "phone call" then no reason for it not to work with digital voice as is. Just plug it into the BT socket on your router (or phone extensions).

    If you must have holes in the work top, then why not buy the moulded plug with flex, put flex through the work top then join to the appliance flex (chop off plug) with either inline connector, or some kind of plug/socket (thinking kettle lead/lawn mower connector - earthed).

    What happens when you have to replace that TV and the new one has different requirements? Can you not run a conduit between two locations with brush plates so different cables can be pulled through?

    Connecting to WiFi is nothing to do with making a phone call. Which one was it with your old ISP, WiFi or PSTN phone line?
