Any idea what this darker coloured loft insulation is?

Hi thanks for the reply. I was talking about the stuff of the "floor" of the loft. Basically there's modernish yellow/standard insulation on the top layer but after I pulled that back there's much darker stuff, not sure how clear it is on the photo but you should be able to see there's maybe 3...

Any idea what this darker coloured loft insulation is?

I was trying to pull back insulation in my loft earlier to get some better airflow and this darker coloured insulation down at the eaves seemed to come away in my hand. I'm a bit concerned it's something that shouldn't have been interfered with, any ideas what sort of insulation it is? House is...

Where to run extraction duct to?

Hi I have an issue with where steam from my bathroom is going up into my loft and causing issues. I want to install some extraction for the bathroom. I was thinking about an inline extraction pump in the loft (to save having to drill through external wall at high level). I assume I would drill...

Tried to regrout bathroom floor twice and both times been a disaster

Sorry only just see this reply (email went to spam for some reason). Cheers, I actually forgot that the 2nd time I tried I did use mapei however I absolutely mixed it by uneducated judgment which is probably the issue. I'll try what you said and let you know, cheers again

Tried to regrout bathroom floor twice and both times been a disaster

My upstairs bathroom floor tiles are an absolute mess, we're putting the house on the market so wanted to try and tidy it up a bit. I twice tried to re-grout using some no nonsense stuff for floor tiles. Basically I removed what I could of the old stuff, mixed up the new and left for about 13...

Water damage. Need to match Kitchen unit doors. What is this style/colour?

Bit of a hail Mary here but I've had no luck finding replacement doors online. I'm hoping these are quite generic and someone might know the name of the style or colour?

Best way to deep clean these tile/bath sealant strips

Sorry not sure if this belongs in a different forum but I'm looking for a way to deep clean the mould off these strips that seem to have been used instead of silicon sealant. I'm trying to get my (absolutely horrible) bathroom a bit more presentable for putting the house the house on the...

Any advice for best way to repair this wooden bed frame?

Cheers for that. In that case I'd basically remove the dowels from the (cut back) spanning timber and secure with angle bracket only?

Any advice for best way to repair this wooden bed frame?

No idea how I managed to break it (I like to think I'm not *that* heavy!), I just got up from it this morning and heard a crack. OK cheers, I'll cut the damaged section out and try to source a bit of timber to put in its place. Cheers

Any advice for best way to repair this wooden bed frame?

Sorry if this is the wrong sub for this. I'm wondering if anyone has any good advice for how-to fix this? The bed slay has completely broken off, as has the support bracket which spans across the middle of the bed frame (it's a single bed). Buying a new one isn't really an option right now so...

Condensing tumble dryer causing excessive moisture/steam in kitchen

Yeah certainly not an external one anyway. I've checked the door seal etc but as I mentioned it's been doing it since brand new, injust didn't realise it was an issue at 1st. I'll phone them up bit could end up being better to just replace, I was basically hoping this was a common issue that...

Condensing tumble dryer causing excessive moisture/steam in kitchen

About a year ago I got a new beko condensing tumble dryer. My wife is convinced it dries clothes much better than the hotpoint it replaced however since day 1 it has made the whole kitchen very hot and also produces an excessive amount of steam and condensation on windows. I didn't think much...

House constantly loses heat at a fast rate, how best to identify source?

Thanks for that, a couple quick questions if you don't mind as I'm going to go tomorrow to buy what I need for this: You mentioned blocking both the inner and outer parts of the wall, can I do this with a single bit of insulation that bridges the 2 or should I maintain a cavity in between 2...

House constantly loses heat at a fast rate, how best to identify source?

Oh right, I just assumed it was for an old tumble dryer, I suppose it doesn't make a difference either way in that I should still block it off to try and help with draught/cold issues in kitchen? House is from about 1975

House constantly loses heat at a fast rate, how best to identify source?

Cheers mate, I've never done this work before so I've assumed it's as follows: Chisel out old vent Push in insulation (I already have the polystyrene type boards so will probably use that) Leave about 10mm gap to front of wall and fill with cement That all sound about right with what you did...

House constantly loses heat at a fast rate, how best to identify source?

Heating pattern is basically on for half an hour though the night. On for about an hour about 8am and then it's boosted for 30/45 mins through the day as required, generally on for about 3 hours a day at the moment. I don't use the thermostat option as my hive unit seems to be faulty...

House constantly loses heat at a fast rate, how best to identify source?

I think the existing vent is cemented in so assume I'll have to chisel it out, suppose I'm as well just sealing ot up after that. Never did that sort of work before, I've assumed to leave about 10mm to the insulation then fill with cement?
