A question about steel baths and repairing them

My bath has 2 chips out of the enamel, one of these is quite a large chip (about 6 or 7mm diameter), both caused by my kids throwing things into the bath! I posted an old picture of 1 of them, it's probably slightly worse now. Below the chips is a black substance. I have been told before that...

Why do radiators have to be left off for an extended period after painting? And some TRV questions

Thanks. I have just changed the rad to the frost setting on the TRV as I've been told separately that this is better than fully off, does that seem right? I assume unless my house is absolutely freezing then the frost setting will essentially be the same as being off? There is definitely a more...

Why do radiators have to be left off for an extended period after painting? And some TRV questions

Hi all My wife, in her infinite wisdom, decided to paint radiators today despite is having a cold snap up here. She used hammerrite radiator paint and my understanding is that you shouldn't use the radiator for a minimum of 24 hours after it's been painted. We have a baby in the house so this...

Quick question about hive receiver wiring using existing 2 wire connection

Hi all I am looking to wire a hive receiver for a boiler. The existing thermostat has a 2 wire connection which is basically a switched 230V live connection that comes from the incoming supply to the boiler, through a fused isolator and then to the thermostat switch and then to a run connection...

Best way of identifying source/cause of cold problem on kitchen

Thanks for the replies. I'll try and provide a bit more info I did a rough sketch of the kitchen, apologies for the quality, my camera is gubbed on my phone. You can see the radiator position is terrible, its tucked under a worktop and hemmed in by tumble dryer. I spoke to a heating engineer...

Best way of identifying source/cause of cold problem on kitchen

Hi all Every year over the winter I have a problem where my kitchen is extremely cold. I'd say this isn't normal room cold, its basically always freezing in comparison to anywhere else and seems to be a an actual problem causing it, you can also feel cold air on your feet, seemingly coming from...

New wall mount needs 75mm drill depth. Would you be concerned about this in a brick party wall?

I'm going to pick up some m8 X 60mm anchor bolts, hopefully this should be enough. Not sure the drill depth needed for them but hopefully it's just 60mm

New wall mount needs 75mm drill depth. Would you be concerned about this in a brick party wall?

Yeah exactly, I'm thinking of just going up to Screwfix and buying shorter fixings. Anybody know the name of the fixing type that's best for wall mounts on a brick wall? TV weighs just under 20kg

New wall mount needs 75mm drill depth. Would you be concerned about this in a brick party wall?

I have the sanus vlt5 which supplies raw plugs that need 75mm drill depth. My old bracket only needed 60mm. I'm not sure what the standard thickness of party walls is, I have a 1970s terraced house with absolutely terrible sound insulation from next door so I suspect they are thin walls.

Indesit tumble dryer f08 fault (heater)

Hi all My wife has just phoned me to say the tumble dryer has stopped working and has an f08 fault. I'll need to look at this when I get in, a quick search indicates this is related to the heater contact being welded shut. Has anyone come across this problem before? I'm hoping I can...
