    Accenta G4 external box chirps

My Accenta security alarm has two external boxes - one at the front and one at the rear of the house. The battery is only 2 years old and I have checked its condition and it's holding the charge. Recently and again last night the box at the rear of the house started emitting a loud chirping...

    Test Sirrus wax shower thermostat

I have a Bristan recessed shower with a Sirrus wax thermostat. Is there a way to test the thermostat e.g. put it in a bowl of hot water? The reason I ask is because the shower is only luke warm. I have followed Bristan's instructions for servicing the shower unit and although there is hot...

Rust around gas boiler flue joints

Will it be necessary to replace the whole flue? I ask because it will be a challenging job to do that as it's a second floor flat and it would require scaffolding if the whole flue has to be replaced. If it's just an inner section that would be much easier.

Rust around gas boiler flue joints

Thank you for the latest comments which offer reasonable explanations as to what may be the cause and therefore what to look for. I will get a heating engineer ASAP to investigate further and fix the problem. Regards to all.

Rust around gas boiler flue joints

OK. So how common is it for condensate to rot the seals i.e. how long should they last? Why do some rot and not others? Is there something that needs to be done to stop them rotting? Does condensate differ in its concentration and why would that happen? Looking for more solutions here.

Rust around gas boiler flue joints

OK but why would the seals leak? How do I ensure they won't just leak again?

Rust around gas boiler flue joints

I have a seven year old Glo-worm 18hxi gas boiler in a second floor flat; the flue exits sideways onto a south west facing wall. A recent Gas Safety check reported that 'Flue has been leaking above boiler'; 'needs new flue' I have only just now discovered that other flat owners had reported...

Violent water hammer in hot tap.

Thank you. Will look for a quarter turn tap that won't look too out of place with the bath tap!

Violent water hammer in hot tap.

I get occasional violent, very violent, water hammer when turning on the hot water tap located the furthest point from the hot water cylinder which are both on the first floor. When it occurs I quickly turn the tap off and wait a few seconds then try again. The hammering may occur again but...

    External door bottom seal

I have a door with a metal strip inserted into the sill. There is a rebate on the bottom of the door and this should seal against the upstanding metal strip but it doesn't! Can anyone suggest a robust and hopefully adhesive type seal that I can apply to either the door or the metal strip...

    LED to monitor motor

Ericmark's solution looks interesting. Do I assume the Energenie communicates with the IFTTT app? The treatment plant is connected to the main supply with a wired spur. Could I replace the spur unit with a 13amp socket and plug the water treatment unit in using the Energenie or would that not...

    LED to monitor motor

Ummmmh. 'Knock up a simple manometer...' The solutions all sound fascinating and I've got time on my hands at the moment but I'm just a DIYer with no electrical training. I was really hoping for a simple plug in device but that doesn't seem possible. I'll mull over the suggestions and try to...

    LED to monitor motor

Should have mentioned that there's a sacrificial pin that breaks in the event either of the air pump diaphragms break. The pump then stops. On the occasion this happened recently the circuit was tripped but whether that would always happen I don't know.

    LED to monitor motor

Thanks for the feedback - I think! The treatment plant has an air pump not a water pump so perhaps some of the solutions may not be effective? I had thought of using some sort of current monitor but I guess that would need a separate cable which is not practicable. Think I'll just have to...

    LED to monitor motor

I have a water treatment plant in my garden that, in winter and bad weather, I do not monitor as frequently as I probably should. The pump should run constantly 24/7. The unit is isolated by a fused spur which, currently, does not have an led but I am going to replace it with one that does. If...

Do I need to permanently remove room sensor?

Yes, it's still possible to move around in clear sight of the sensor so should be OK.
