I get occasional violent, very violent, water hammer when turning on the hot water tap located the furthest point from the hot water cylinder which are both on the first floor. When it occurs I quickly turn the tap off and wait a few seconds then try again. The hammering may occur again but after a couple of tries it's okay so I guess the back pressure is gradually being released.

I replaced the tap recently and fitted a water hammer arrestor but today I got the same violent hammer when I turned the hot water tap on.

The hammering is so violent that it will clearly cause damage if not fixed.

Any ideas?

I has a similar issue when we replaced a tap with a another single basin mono mixer, problem was sorted in the end by replacing that tap with qtr turn tap.

Thank you. Will look for a quarter turn tap that won't look too out of place with the bath tap!
