Spur from lighting circuit for TV

Hi all I need to add a double socket behind a wall mounted TV. This socket would be used for an LED TV (71W power consumption) and maybe a Sky Q mini box in the future. Only real feasible solution is to spur from the lighting circuit in that room. Socket would never be used for anything other...

Texecom Veritas R8 - would not having an external bell box throw a tamper fault

Thanks both. This is a used panel, it’s lighting zone 1 when looking at the tamper info (which I believe is bell / global tamper). If I’m not using the tamper terminals do I need to insert a link in the TAMP terminals?

Texecom Veritas R8 - would not having an external bell box throw a tamper fault

Hi all, I have installed a Veritas R8 with one door contact and an internal sounder; NO external bell box. When I power on the panel I get a series of 9 beeps which I assume is the tamper fault. Given I have no external bell box, do I need to bridge some of the external bell box terminals in...

4 core or 6 core cable

Hi all I am thinking about installing a Texecom Veritas R8 alarm into my detached garage. Probably add a door contact to the door, as I assume PIR’s could cause false alarms with the heat and spiders etc (although I do have a pet friendly PIR). Question is can I use 4 core cable for this...

    Verisure alarm systems

I can see why small local alarm companies are promoting local firms and not these big companies. The main cost in the alarm is the monitoring side. Can local smaller alarm companies offer the same services that Verisure do - I don’t think so. Who do these local firms use to monitor the...

    Verisure alarm systems

Had a quote from Verisure (and ADT) over the last few days. ADT reviews aren't the best when you look online, where as Verisure seem to have better ratings. Does anyone here have any experience of Verisure?

Re-install Veritas R8 after ripped from wall by burglar

Thanks for the reply. Main control panel is showing a green light, none of the PIR's are lighting up though. Could this be due to the alarm not being reset? No reason for the PIR fuse to blow.

Re-install Veritas R8 after ripped from wall by burglar

Thank you for the reply. My only concern with removing the panel cover is will this activate the anti-tamper switch and cause the external bell box to sound? If my keypad IS faulty and no longer works after being thrown on the floor I will have no way of turning off the alarm. None of the...

Re-install Veritas R8 after ripped from wall by burglar

Hi all. We were burgled last week, they broke in then ripped both the remote keypad and the internal sounder from the wall (I was told they do this as this will silent the alarm - even if the siren has its own battery). I am wanting to refit just the keypad to see if it still works. Looks...

Veritas R8 - reset alarm with no keypad

If remove FCU and battery by opening the main control panel won’t this trip the external sounder?

Veritas R8 - reset alarm with no keypad

Hi I have a Texecom R8 alarm, main control panel and separate keypad. I was burgled last week, alarm went off however burglars just ripped the keypad and internal sounder off the wall. The external bell is still clicking and the blue light is flashing (no siren). Is there a way this can...

    Smart external light controller

It’s an external RCD in a weathproof box. I’m going with smart bulbs. If these dont last I’ll just revert to non-smart operation.

    Smart external light controller

There is a feed from the house to an RCD. From here a cable is run to a switch which then feeds 2 lights on a patio wall. Lights are across a patio and not on the house wall. My original plan was to replace the switch with a nightmatic photocell but looks like these are rear entry for the...

    Smart external light controller

Smart bulbs aren’t expensive. Much cheaper than running new cables to the house and having a controller in the house. If they don’t survive, I’ve only lost £32. In which case I’ll revert to standard bulbs and just replace the switch with a photocell.

    Smart external light controller

Hi Is there a smart lighting controller on the market for controlling external lights? Originally thought about just using tp-link smart bulbs but these are quite big and don’t fit properly in the lights. I have Hive heating, are hive light bulbs smaller than tp-links? Thanks

Railway sleepers raised bed - anchor or not

I didn't account for posts when doing the footings. I don't think there will be sufficient weight to cause the bed to bow. I am using 100mm x 200mm x 2.4m sleepers and they will be laid on their 200mm face. Each course of sleepers will be screwed to the course beneath with 150mm timberlok...
