with the heating off,run the hot tap and see if the central heating flow pipe gets hot,if it does its a definate new diverter valve req which sounds wot the fault is,i have no idea why he changed heat exchanger cos its nothing 2 do with ure fault,waste of money...

Blocked cold feed???its a pressurised system!other than the 2port being behind the cylinder theres no reason why it cant b done in 2hrs and drink a cup of tea afterwards.65 pound an hour!!?? British gas charge 70 quid an hour!

Rip off,ure looking at 75 quid max for parts,so hes charging 200 quid labour for a job that even if its awkward shouldnt take any longer than 2-3 hours max

when u say the diverter moves in fully does it definately activate both microswitches??they can become lazy and just operate bottom switch.

look on the ch flow pipe near boiler,it will be 22mm pipe,u may have a brass valve fitted,difficult to say wot it looks like but it will be a compression fitting and it may have an arrow on it idicating the flow.either way as uve got a gravity system a non-return valve will need fitting,cheap...

if u bleed the rad and no air or water comes out then its more likely blocked cold feed,quick check 2 confirm this would be to attach hose as if ure going to drain system,open draincock up then jump in loft 2 see if the small header tank is filling,if it isnt its a definate blocked cold feed

do u have motorised valves that control ure ch and hw anywhere on the system??if so it will be one of them passing.if u dont have them uve got a gravity system which will need the non-return valve replacing if it has 1 or a new 1 fitting 2 system :)

my opologies,just remembered it was the hw 1 i changed!!

sounds like the thermostat is stuck,turn off both valves and remove rad,open up valves and see if pressure is there,also see if valve in trv hasnt got stuck

correct me if im wrong but the last temp sensor i changed on 1 of these it was a wet pocket??

P.s I live in 1 of the hardest water areas in the country and scale doesnt effect combis like people make out,its Always sludge from ch thats blocks then.just fit a suitable scale protector that will HELP but not completely stop scale...HS38's are good and easy to install with no servicing req'd

Uve got 2 options,rip it out and put a descent unvented cylinder in,or just fit a combi,thats wot I would do :)
