Hi,

I have an ideal mexico floor standing boiler (23 year old) that is working fine but I have just noticed a bit of a strange problem.

When i set the timer to HW only, some of the rads get hot - is there any way i can stop this from happening. it's not much of a problem at the moment, but will be if the weather ever warms up!

Cheers

do u have motorised valves that control ure ch and hw anywhere on the system??if so it will be one of them passing.if u dont have them uve got a gravity system which will need the non-return valve replacing if it has 1 or a new 1 fitting 2 system :)

hi,

it's a gravity system. boiler is in cellar, hw cylinder in bedroom with cold water tank directly above and f/e tank in loft it think.

if a valve needs replacing - where is it likely to be located?

Cheers

Rob

look on the ch flow pipe near boiler,it will be 22mm pipe,u may have a brass valve fitted, difficult to say wot it looks like but it will be a compression fitting and it may have an arrow on it idicating the flow.either way as uve got a gravity system a non-return valve will need fitting, cheap job and easy to carry out :)

combispecialist, although your advice is pretty sound, you should bear in mind that most of the help wanters on here call any system with a F&E tank gravity, rather than - as we know them - open. Consequently this may be fully pumped OR pumped CH & gravity HW.

hi twgas,

i think the ch is pumped and hw is gravity. there is one pump at the back of the boiler which i assume is for ch.

do you have a pic of what the valve would look like if there was one on my system? - only recently moved into the house so don't know if this has been a permanent problem or not
