    Advice and reassurance please!

I probably have this wrong. I mean the big lengths of wood that come down from the top beam and go into the wall.

    Advice and reassurance please!

Hi, I posted prev about a brown spot on ceiling in bedroom. The gutter cleaning guy took a look and said the first 2 rows of tiles have a lot of damage. When I bought my house the neighbour said the previous owner had it re-felted and tiles re laid recently so I hoped all was well. So...

    Roof leak?

Found this on my bedroom ceiling. A storm a few months ago was really strong and I noticed a bit more daylight in the loft over that way but it all looked dry but can’t get over that far without a lot of difficulty. If it is likely a leak, what’s the usual procedure to fix? I’ve heard not to...

    Laminate floor problem

Yeah I did that, I used a thicker underlay (wood fibre sheets) on the lower side and just the thin roll type on the higher side. Along that line where it moves, one side is fine and the other end has the high spots. I think this is purely the levelling compound too high at one point. I just...

    Laminate floor problem

So floor gotta come up then! If the floors aren’t level - cut it and put a bar in?

    Laminate floor problem

Timber planks. One floor is bare timber with underlay. The other floor is the same but it has a pre existing underlay glued on which raised it 2Mm. Over the unevenness was brick, built up with levelling compound. To avoid the issue I used 3mm underlay on the lower side and 2Mm underlay...

    Laminate floor problem

Hi, I floored my entire ground floor (almost succesfully)! Where the wall was taken out I filled it in with compound. I tried to get it as level as possible but there is definitely movement so there’s obviously a void and unevenness. I could potentially take it up - it’s not far from the end...

    Fitted Wardrobes

But if it doesn’t perfectly fit the size of the doors, how do you cover the excess? Also how about at the top? Just MDF and paint? Bit of trim where it meets the ceiling?

    Fitted Wardrobes

So you build a frame/shelves, stick plasterboard on it and then get it all skimmed?

    Fitted Wardrobes

I have 2 alcoves in the bedroom both about 1.5M. Just checking online and the costs are staggering! £4-5K seems the going rate. I’m sure these must be more work than I give it credit for as it must be a hugely complex job. Any hacks, or cheaper options as I just can’t afford that kind of...

    Tree growing in drain!

    Tree growing in drain!

Hi, I have a load of undergrowth down the side of the balcony but I’ve just gone to sort it and it appears a small tree is growing out of my drain! What’s the recommended procedure for sorting this? Thanks

    Door - security screws

but I don’t understand why they wouldn’t produce a glue in cap to go into the drive. to me that makes more sense, like a plastic cap, I’m sure I’ve seen them yet screwfix don’t sell anything like that I suppose I could add a blob of adhesive or something

    Door - security screws

Hi, Putting doors on coal bunker, wanted some screws which a thief can’t just undo to get in. I got some security screws from screwfix, they are TX security drive type. I have a bit to drive them in, but how do they work? Surely if a robber has a screwdriver set he can get in, or do you...

is that pozi? I used pozi, it’s like a diamond shape

    Self tapping screws?

what I mean is when you drill a small hole with a large drill bit to recess the head. That’s what I thought was being got at. But now I realise that the long piece actually the screw doesn’t bite into that, and it’s like a hollow tube down to the other bit of wood. But the head of the screw...

    Self tapping screws?

Thanks all. I favour a “have a go” approach At DIY. I’d be sunk without you old hands.

    Self tapping screws?

right, nice one. Could I not just make a mark and then just screw into that? I bought these screws because they were self tapping. I didn’t think self tappers needed all this faf!
