How do either of those stop the fixings penetrating the barrier? The tape or foil-backed insulation is still part of the barrier. Adam

    Large slate hearth

Hi, I'm in the process of replacing the hearth in our inglenook fireplace. I've found a large piece of slate (1.8m x 0.7m x 30mm) which will fit the width of the fireplace but I've seen some off-hand mentions in other threads here about not using a single tile in case it cracks. Is this a...

    Crack Stitching

Hi All, A bit over four years ago, I asked some questions here about re-pointing re-pointed a crack in our gable wall. After raking it out: I re-pointed and it's been good since... Until the other day I was looking at it again and noticed a small (<1mm) crack has re-appeared down...

    Cutting Limestone Tiles

Hi, I'm laying a floor with 40x60x1 limestone tiles. I've got a wet cutter which works (slowly), but have a load of straight edges which would be a lot quicker and easier with a manual cutter. Is it possible to cut thin limestone with a manual cutter? Thanks, Adam

    Surface mount cupboard door switch

Hi All, I'm looking for a surface-mount push-to-break cupboard door switch. I bought a cheapo one on eBay, but it's no good. The terminals are exposed and there's no cable grip and I don't have time/space or inclination to make my own enclosure for it! With more googling, I've found these...

    Maggots on bedroom carpet

Sorry, I didn't think of other potential interpretations of "toy"... It was a soft toy for a baby. We do have 2 dogs, but they're not allowed upstairs. The bird-down-the-chimney suggestion is possible I guess (if maggots "travel" away from the original food source). Adam

    Maggots on bedroom carpet

There were two patches of maggots, about 2' apart. One on top of the carpet, one underneath the carpet and underlay. Both were under the bed, so there's no way anything could have been spilt there. I suppose there could have been some dead insects or something, but there's no trace of any...

    Maggots on bedroom carpet

There's no smell. The toy was a synthetic stuffed carrot. There is (and was) nothing visible in the area which might be a food source, including the bed which has a brand new mattress. I though maybe there was a dead mouse or something under the floorboards - but where the maggots were under...

    Maggots on bedroom carpet

Hi All, I hope someone can help identify & solve a horrible vermin problem I've just discovered! I just moved a bed and discovered a little writhing mass of small maggots (~5mm) under a toy which was lost under there. There was no apparent food source. I lifted the carpet and discovered...

Not really. I just got a diverter and coupled the supplied plastic pipe to the blue pipe. Adam
