Connect 68mm downpipe to 25mm blue pipe?

Hi All, I have a small bit of roof which I want to capture all the run-off from. Is it possible to connect standard round gutter downpipe (or, in fact direct from a running outlet) to 25mm pipe? If so, where can I find the relevant part? Cheers, Adam

    Garden Plumbing

Well, I've changed plans slightly. I'm going to use blue MDPE and hope that a 25mm straight connector will work with the rain diverter. I'm also going to use a second hand IBC as the water butt, so that avoids problems with curved plastic etc. However, I do still have one problem... For one...

    Garden Plumbing

Hi All, We've got a detached garage. I'd like to stick 2 or 3 water butts behind it (raised up to give water pressure), with a tap at the front of the building - so I need to run pipes. I'll probably do the plumbing with 22mm plastic, but there're two things I haven't worked out: - how can I...

Keeping house cool in summer re. insulation

Oh, OK, I see what you mean. It's a shame every website in the world says "and keeps your house cool in summer" when talking about insulation! However, I do wonder if my house is particularly prone to over-heating due to the poor existing insulation - it seems to get much much hotter than...

Keeping house cool in summer re. insulation

Hmm, shame. Does anyone else have experience relating to loft insulation keeping the house cool in summer? My logic is that the reflective stuff might stop radiation from the hot attic into the house below. Presumably the blanket will stop conduction and convection shouldn't work downwards...

Keeping house cool in summer re. insulation

Hi All, I have an old house with solid walls (stone downstairs, 1 brick thick upstairs) and 100mm of existing loft insulation. The upstairs turns into a sauna in the summer. At some point in the future I will be thinking about how to insulate the walls but, for now, I'm just about to top up...

    Counter-battening in Loft

Hi, My loft has about 10cm of insulation and I'd like to increase it while keeping an area boarded for storage. As the existing joists are only 10cm deep (2"x4") I'm planning to counter-batten with 50mm x 200mm. So far, so good, the only question I have is will the additional weight be a...

Drained & Refilled CH Yesterday. Today no heating!

Yes. Is that good or bad? Hmm, how do I tell? It's mounted in the same orientation as the picture in the FAQ. I've just now gone round and re-bled the upstairs radiators and a lot of air came out. At the risk of sounding stupid... all the new air must have come from somewhere in the system...

Drained & Refilled CH Yesterday. Today no heating!

Thanks a lot for the quick reply! I bled the pump. It didn't seem like much (or any) air came out and I thought it hadn't helped, but about half the radiators in the house warmed up. I left the heating on and after about half an hour there was some serious gurgling and wooshing around the...

Drained & Refilled CH Yesterday. Today no heating!

Hi All, Yesterday I drained and refilled my (open-vented) central heating to add some cleanser. The system has inverted pipe loops and I drained from all 4 drain valves (though the water came out very slowly from one). After refilling & bleeding, the heating didn't work at first, but...

Dryer Vent Through 2' Stone Wall

It's in the kitchen, so that's not really practical in the winter when it's needed! :( I am referring to "condensation" damp and, of course, that is 100% caused by living in the house (including hanging out clothes to dry). As for the house being "prone" to it - my comparison is with a different...

Dryer Vent Through 2' Stone Wall

Thanks, I've read things on this forum saying that condensing dryers aren't that great and still let moisture into the room. (The house is prone to damp which is the reason I want a dryer.)

Dryer Vent Through 2' Stone Wall

Hi, I'd like to install a washer/dryer, which means knocking a hole through the wall - which is about 2 foot thick, made of hamstone (a limestone). I've never done any substantial drilling before and would be grateful for any advice. Should I worry about a void in the middle of the wall? Are...

    Cold Radiators Conundrum

Fantastic :) I loosened the screw and the TRV head came off easily. After a bit of fiddling/tapping of the pin it freed up and the radiator started working. The same for all the other cold ones :D Thanks past3bar and kev! Adam

    Cold Radiators Conundrum

Thanks, I think you're right. I tried closing the return valve on one of the cold radiators and the water stopped coming out of the bleed valve, which suggests to me that the TRV is jammed. However, I can't work out how to take off the head of the Danfoss TRV. Other posts about fixing TRVs...

    Cold Radiators Conundrum

Hi All, With the arrival of the cold weather we've just fired up the heating in the old house we moved into in the summer, but there's a problem - most of the radiators upstairs don't get warm at all. Here are some hopefully relevant points: - all the radiators have TRVs - 7 radiators...

    What is this?

Thanks for all the replies. The house is from about 1850. When I get a chance (probably not soon) I'll have a go at following the pipe to see what I can find. Adam

    What is this?

...and can I remove it by hacksawing the pipe where it comes out of the ground? P.S. I've put this in "plumbing" as I'm guessing it's water-related - but I'm not sure!
