    Defective pir or ghosts maybe?

It's possible it might have been a cat or cats, as we have two or three who wander around here, though they would be freezing cold tonight! My other half says she'll sleep easier in her bed tonight after I told her I was informed on here that it might well have been the freezing fog

    Defective pir or ghosts maybe?

Could freezing fog drifting across the pir sensor of a security light cause it to activate? It's been working perfectly up until tonight, when it has switched itself on twice when no animal or human has been anywhere near it but I did notice freezing fog drifting in front ot it!

    TRV preventive maintenance

I have read many posts on this forum about pins sticking on TRVs due to lack of maintenance and use. I would be grateful for advice as to what I should do about the TRVs on a system in an empty flat. The heating will not be on at all and I don't know whether I should close them or open...

Using TRV on a radiator as on/off valve

Thank you kevplumb Funny you should say that. In the flat we have just moved from, the only TRV that went on the bum was the one that was very rarely turned on or off from one year to the next, believe it or not :o

Using TRV on a radiator as on/off valve

Is it quite in order to use a TRV as an on/off valve to shut off a radiator in a bedroom during the day when it is not required or could this cause damage to it? Or is there another way I could do this? I don't see the point in heating an empty room for several hours a day

Would it be possible to use a 150W bulb in a 500W halogen pir security light, or would it just burn out?

In the dark about a switching on a pir light manually

I thank you for your prompt replies to my post. I have tried it during the day and it doesn't work , but I haven't tried it at night yet. There is nothing in the instructions about it, but the more expensive model of this lamp has a manual override, as I have noticed this in the pdf manual...

In the dark about a switching on a pir light manually

Some time ago somebody made a post about being able to make a pir stay on and breezer replied http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=306429#306429 "to humour you. switch it off then on within 10 seconds since most will see this as an "overide command" to come on and stay on...

Wiring a halogen pir using existing wiring

How do I wire up a halogen pir please, which I would like to put in place of the external bulkhead light fitted outside the back door of the kitchen. I haven't opened up the original light fitting to check how it is wired, as I haven't bought the pir yet, but there is a 2.5mm twin and earth...

    Protecting cable on external light

I would like to change the ancient bulkhead light fitting outside my back door (which has not long since had new wiring and switch fitted when the property was refurbished), to a modern security light so we can see to put the key in the back door lock. The problem is the cable will have to be...

Annual service and gas safety check

I am sorry if I did not make my question clear  I intend having my Worcester Bosch Greenstar 27CDI boiler serviced annually by an accredited agent to take advantage of the 5 year warranty. I just wasn't sure if this service included a gas safety check. Now that I do know this from...

Annual service and gas safety check

Thanks for the quick response to my post! kevplumb I think I understand the second part of your post. When I contacted npower to ask why I had not received acknowledgement of having submitted my meter readings I was told to stop sending in readings as I was only confusing the issue...

Annual service and gas safety check

Could anybody tell me if an annual gas boiler service includes a gas safety check. If I get my new boiler serviced annually by an accredited installer the manufacturer will honour a 5 year warranty. I am entitled to a free gas safety check from my energy supplier but am wondering if...

RCD adaptor trips main fuseboard RCD when tested

Quote You keep a car like that for pleasure? I'd assumed it was a wonderful old classic. It's a wonderful old classic to me because it will be the last car I will ever own before I go to the Rover assembly line in the sky, as I am getting to the age where I might be refused a licence...

RCD adaptor trips main fuseboard RCD when tested

john d My car is 14 years old and has only done 18200 miles since I bought it in August 1995. It is a Rover 214 sei It only did 520 miles last year. I was in the AA and it was embarrassing to call them out every year for nothing more than a flat battery. Apart from that I was wasting...

RCD adaptor trips main fuseboard RCD when tested

RCD adaptor trips main fuseboard RCD when tested

John D Stupid of me to think the FSU I converted to a socket would not be influenced by the main RCD. As I said, everything goes phut except the lights  In relation to your request I don't have a digital camera and even if I did I wouldn't have the faintest idea of how to...
