Recommendation for welding mask (up to £100)

Thanks. Budget coukd poss8bly be stretched. Can that model take a magnifier? Looking around it seems like the helmets with larger viewing area can't.

Recommendation for welding mask (up to £100)

Hi, I'm looking for an auto welding mask, to replace my existing Esab "Warrior" that has now died. That cost £60 +VAT in 2014 so my thinking is that for the same sort of money i should be able to get something better ("true colour" for example). Any recommendations? It would need to have...

    grid meter

You'd need to meter everything in both directions. You don't get billed on the net amount, even within on 1/2 slot if you export say 1kWh in the first half, and import 1kWh in the second half then these would each be billed and credited. Not cancelled out.

    grid meter

In terms of the OPs metering arrangements, I don't see how anything else could be done automatically. That would require his meter to charge a reduced rate if the electricity consumed would otherwise have been exported. One possible compromise might be to apply a discount for days where he...

    grid meter

Octopus offers 15p flat rate, but only if you are with them for import. I believe it's credited month by month.

    Losing heat through extractor

    Tuna as well.

    grid meter

Just out of interest what's your export unit rate? Question to both the OP and to ericmark i guess.

    grid meter

Depends on the relationship, agreement or contract. If everything's metered it's not free electricity as it's reduced your export payments by 5kWh.

    Losing heat through extractor

A counter current heat exchanger can do a lot better than that. Whether domestic appliances are that sophisticated is another question.

How do I wire 2-way light switches, please? (Ed. )

The old wiring in our garage/workshop used twin with no earth, plus various single core sheathed cables to provide enough cores. Earthing for the metal switches was provided by a fly lead from the adjacent power point. Where I retained two way switching I replaced the drop cables with three...

How do I wire 2-way light switches, please? (Ed. )

That's exactly what I meant. And regarding terminal blocks for N, grabbed from another site. And I think if feed and light were connected to the same switch, you'd still need one block to connect N ..

How do I wire 2-way light switches, please? (Ed. )

Don't they both need at least one connector block for Neutral? I've seen a third method when the supply comes to the light fitting, with 3 core + earth down to each switch.

    Evaluate my smart meter installs

My reason was to get on a "smart" tariff, currently saving me around 30% compared to standard variable. That might be less of a benefit when (if) we get the solar panels, but then we'd need the smart meter anyway to get export payments. Nobody's doing deemed export for new installs, and the...

    Evaluate my smart meter installs

I take it you're not a smart meter fan. Out of interest, why not?

    Evaluate my smart meter installs

Record reading(s) from old meter before disconnecting anything. Leave record of old meter reading and new meter readings

Duct For Control/Data Cables on my Own Land

Hi, I need to run a duct from our garage, under the (gravel) drive to the house. Specifically this is for a monitoring sensor needed for our planned solar install, but while doing this I'll also run two or maybe three Ethernet Cat5e cables. So nothing above 48V. Are there any regulatory...

    Camper van electrics

Unless it's a real fancy battery it will have a really short life if discharged below 50%. And without an equally fancy charger probably won't ever be fully charged. So usable capacity may be more like 30Ah.

AC current - load vs solar generation

And just to be clear, I am correct that they get subtracted, rather than added?

AC current - load vs solar generation

It is. Our transformer is 64A according to the data plate. We went for his 80A option for future proofing and to minimise voltage drop for circuits run on to the other outbuildings. Wouldn't have saved that much if we'd gone for 60A (presumably 16sq.mm)

AC current - load vs solar generation

Yes it is. It's 25sq.mm and the sparky who installed it rated it as 80A. As it happens there's probably head room even if you did add actual garage load onto solar instead of subtracting. But maybe not if he went round trotting up every power tool or appliance and wanted to allow for...
