    Today's experience of WPD

Been at a regular customer of mine today, who has an engineering business. They have been having power cuts recently, fairly frequently, approximately one a month for the last 6 months. Each time it's usually not for very long however it is a serious inconvenience as machines shut down and take...

    Click Accessories Rant.

Now you mention it, I too have had problems with twin sockets only working in one side. Also had a problem with a light switxh screw terminal not tightening. So I agree the quality could certainly be improved.

    Click Accessories Rant.

<rant> I quite like the Click Scolmore mini grid system of mix and matching switches and modules in one plate, however click surface boxes are totally carp! The back of them protrudes slightly so they don't sit flat on the wall, the knock outs are too big meaning you end up with unsightly gaps...

    Switch with or without neon

I make sure there is nothing in our kitchen which can harm our children. Being 3 yrs old she is now at the age where she will pull a chair over to get things off the worktop. There fore all knives are in a draw, all draws and cupboards have locks on. You can not stop a 3 yr old from going into a...

    Switch with or without neon

;) If BAS is like how he is on this forum in real life, then I doubt he has found anyone to put up with him long enough for him to get to 'having children'! ;)

    Cable failure or me?

True, but I bet he didn't use it to check for the voltage! :sneaky: OP - can you let us know!?

    Cable failure or me?

We're you using a screwdriver with a neon inside yo test for live? My bet is that you are, and this is picking up an induced voltage in the other cores. There was nothing wrong with the first cable you had installed. This demonstrates why these screwdrivers are useless, you need a two probe...

Garage electric funny old cable - help please

When I was an apprentice I had the job with a fellow chap to rewire a church in pyro. I loved the stuff as soon as I started using it. Being able to make an installation look neat and tidy and know it will last. When we got to the pyro part at college, where we terminated a couple glands nearly...

Help with wiring for replacing NEFF heating element.

If the spades were so loose that they popped off the old element, use some pliers to gently squeeze them together so they grip the element terminals a bit tighter. They shouldn't just fall off. If you don't do this you could get problems with the connection overheating.

    Pull neutral to light switch

You may have neutrals at your switch positions, could you carefully unscrew a couple a post a photo here? If you need to get neutrals there, and you have a loop in system at the ceiling rose, it may be best to just pull a new 3 core plus earth cable in to the switch. This may or may not be easy...

Strange RCD tripping fault, any ideas!?

Went back this morning and tried meggering the whilst someone else walked around on the floor but nothing changed, stayed at 200M on 250v but dropped to 0.00M on 500V Eric - I know it's nothing like that as the builder is the customer of mine (who happens to be a friends father) and he is only...

Strange RCD tripping fault, any ideas!?

Strange RCD tripping fault, any ideas!?

Also has some lighting and sockets on the RCD. All wiring is new, however some power tools would have been plugged in to the sockets.

Strange RCD tripping fault, any ideas!?

Yes had the element disconnected from the controller for testing, and the last time I powered up it was just the element straight on with a temporary plug top so no controller isn't the issue. No one else was on the floor when testing, and it's only a small floor! Strange one which has got me...

Strange RCD tripping fault, any ideas!?

Had a look at some electric underfloor heating tonight causing RCD to trip. It has only recently been installed and all metered ok when fitted a couple months ago. Has been working fine since, the place is still undergoing building work. RCD trips instantly when heating is turned on on the...

    Regulations and payment

A few nightly bits? Could you expand on this, perhaps take some photos of the work so we can assess the quality of it? Regarding the certificates, all electrical work requires a certificate to be given, notification to building control however is a different matter. If no new circuits were...
