    Gavanised beam or not.

Thanks guys. The SE has specified the beam and said it needs to have adequate rust protection to satisfy building regs. Thanks

    Gavanised beam or not.

Hey guys and girls. I’m just looking at ordering the beam for over our bi-folds. It’s a UB with plate welded to bottom at take the external blockwork. Would galvanising really be necessary for this? The suppliers asked if I need it to be and said it needs it if it’s outside. Strictly...

    Lightweight concrete blocks

Thanks guys. Well it seems no one down here supply anything light. Even the 3.6’s are just as heavy as the 7’s! Guess we’ll just have to struggle. Chheers

    Lightweight concrete blocks

hey guys, My brick layer has sent me out to get lightweight concrete blocks for the outside leaf of my cavity wall. Every builders yard I went to today took me to thermolights, which are not for the outside leaf are they? It was either those or the same medium density blocks that we used...

    Hardcore for oversite...

Thank you EVERYONE. I have received my answer and understand I need to make sure there are no voids by ensuring bits are as small as possible. The concrete roof tiles smash into lovely small bits and I will whack down is small intervals. Unfortunately this has been happening more and more...

    Hardcore for oversite...

Ok maybe I’ve wrongly used the word oversite, but it seems everyone calls it that. The floor construction requires min of 150mm compacted sub base before DPM and concrete. Questions as above. Thanks.

    Hardcore for oversite...

Hey guys and girls! We have now got our blockwork up to dpc level and ready to do the oversite. I’ve got lots of broken up concrete from where we took to patio up, would this be ok to use in the oversite, or are we better of with small stuff? I’ve also got a lot of old concrete roofing...

    Extension footings.

It’s something that we did discuss last night. I have already gone a little bit more than I should have, which has taken it to the max span for the flat roof joists that have been specified. So would need the calcs done again to satisfy BC if I was to leave it where it is. Question: how close...

    Extension footings.

I understand the dimensions are minimum so I could just fill them at the extra width, but over the whole trench will be about 2meters if concrete. So hoping to shutter it to avoid using too much concrete if allowable. Cheers.

    Extension footings.

Hey guys! We finally started digging out our footings for our single storey extension today. (Full planning and building regs approval) I applied the ‘measure twice, cut once’ rule, but unfortunately somewhere along the line we went a bit out! Footings are to be 1000mm down, 600mm wide...

Electicity meter move - what size hole in wall?

That will be for your electrician to deicide. He/she will need to have these in place, along with the relevant paperwork for when the electricity supplier move/install your meter. Unless the dno is moving the meter at the same time as doing the service alteration?

    Best type down lighters

If you want downlights, put in downlights. Don’t think too much into it. You're not lighting an operating theatre! Experiment with them, put a couple on a flex with a plug top and play around with positionings to see what you think!

    Best type down lighters

Aurora Enlite have been my go to downlights for a while now. Less than a tenner each and not had one pack up on me yet. Spacing all depends on the area you’re trying to light, joust locations and the unit you decide to use.

    Extension boundary wall.

I specified it to be as long as possible so not entirely his problem. Although reading back, I’ve put all this on him. Nothing is going to be ‘maintainable’ without moving the wall in enough to get a fat person down the side, of which isn’t really practical, we need as much room as possible.

    Extension boundary wall.

Hey guys. I’ve currently got an application in for a single storey rear extension. Architect has drawn it to be 100mm from the boundary to maximise my space as well as keeping it away from my neighbours conservatory footings. The finish will be rendered blockwork, but obviously there will be...

    Hi-fold and slide and swing.

hey guys. I have heard bi-fold doors can be quite problematic and was advised against them and go for lift and slide. Problem is, that only opens up half the glazed area. I’ve seen these slide and swing type doors, has anyone got any experience on them? Thanks.
