Old corrugated iron shed wall replacement

No it's not an old air raid shelter, I live in the highlands of Scotland, around here the trend use to be to make the sheds entirely out of corrugated iron, the walls and the roof. Parts of this shed is over 100 years old I think, my grandfather and great-grandfather made it. There is a wooden...

Barrettine shed and fence treatment on garden furniture.

Thanks for the info. So it won't actually be potentially harmful in any way? They're just saying it's not suitable because it's not very durable for being sat on etc?

    Painting asbestos roof tiles

I'm thinking of getting one of the following two paints and slapping it on the roof tiles: https://www.screwfix.com/p/thompsons-high-performance-roof-seal-black-2-5ltr/46708 or https://www.amazon.co.uk/Everbuild-90505-Weather-Roof-Coating/dp/B0012L72C0 Anyone think that is a bad idea?

    Painting asbestos roof tiles

Really? You don't think there is some kind of paint I could slap on? They are starting to look a bit dull. They are due to be replaced in the next 5 years or so with non-asbestos tiles, just want to make it look better in the meantime.

    Painting asbestos roof tiles

Hi, my house has old roof tiles made with asbestos in them, they are starting to get a bit faded, can anyone recommend a black paint I could paint them with to freshen them up? I read on the thread linked below that painting asbestos might not be a good idea as the paint will then contain...

Remove boiler flue or leave in place?

Hi, I'm looking for some opinions regarding leaving an old boiler flue in place or have it removed. I'm in a top floor flat on the 5th floor, my current boiler has a flue which goes through my attic and out the roof, I have easy access to the roof through a hatch. I'm looking to get a new...

    Screw through gas pipe

Not DIY but I thought I'd share it anyway. Got home to find a Gas Emergency worker frantically checking the stairwell in my block of flats for a leak of gas as someone had reported a strong smell of gas. That afternoon workers had been installing fibre optic cabling and secured a wooden panel...

Jointing compound on radiator bleed valve?

Can anyone tell me if it is necessary to put jointing compound on a radiator bleed valve if you open it to let air out? It's threaded so I thought it might be better, but it's difficult to get out and a lot of water comes out so it's difficult to get out and in again without making a mess.

    Combi Boiler loosing pressure

I changed a radiator on my heating system, and without doing anything to fix the leak on my boiler I filled up the system to 1.5 bar cold to check for leaks on the new radiator valves, that was 24 hours ago and the pressure is still at 1.5 bar... I'm confused now now last week the pressure...

    What kind of radiator valve?

new by ort67 posted 19 Jan 2018 at 10:04 PM I managed to get the Travis Perkins valve on. Only problem with that one was that the new tails were the type that needed to be tightened using a spanner on the outside, not the hex through the middle of the tail, the middle was rounded. The problem...

    What kind of radiator valve?

The new valve inner isn't conical, it's got a flat surface to seat the gasket so it'll probably leak. I've found another model of angled radiator valve at Tarvis Perkins: https://www.travisperkins.co.uk/Altecnic-Eclipse-Angled-Radiator-Valve-Wheel-Head-and-Lock-Shield-Cap-15mm/p/994041...

    What kind of radiator valve?

I tried to fit the new valve but the new tail is shorter than the old one by 4-6mm (difficult to get exact), and they have a different coupling so I can't use the old one, see below picture: val2 by ort67 posted 18 Jan 2018 at 11:09 PM val by ort67 posted 18 Jan 2018 at 11:08 PM I've seen...

    What kind of radiator valve?

Looking online at vidoeos and old forumn posts there is conflicting advice, someone say it's ok to reuse exiting tails and olives some say replace them, some say use joining compound some say use PTFE tape. See here Mr Plumberparts raps some PTFE tape around the olive at reuses it: Here Mr...

    What kind of radiator valve?

Do you think it would be ok to reuse the existing adaptor on the radiator with the new valve? Maybe just renew the o ring? Same with the olive on the pipe, do you think that it would be ok to reuse that? Or would it be better to try and knock the olive off the pipe and fit the new one? I've...
