    LED Lights - Any Good?

I had these installed in my kitchen. Not cheap, but much more efficient to run than standard spots. No bulbs to change either! I've been very pleased. Product name is quad 50 They won't give you your 'mood' coloured lighting though! http://orluna.com/

Best way to lift T&G chipboard flooring?

I need to lay a new plumbing pipe in my loft conversion, which will require me to lift up about a 4m run of flooring. The flooring is t&g chipboard, so I can't see where the joists are. Am I best off locating 2 joists and using a circular saw to take up a section between 2 joists, our do I have...

    'Clack' noise on EcoTec 837

My Vaillant Ecotec 837 (c. 9 months old) makes a loud 'clack' sound when the CH pump overrun stops. Is this some sort of valve closing, perhaps? Is this normal, or should I ask my installer to come back and take a look? Thanks

    Accumulator or Replacement supply pipe?

LOL! "...yes, and there was water EVERYWHERE! I've had it replaced as an emergency... "!

    Accumulator or Replacement supply pipe?

Eaton - already checked with Thames Water and unfortunately the most they'd stretch to is a couple of hundred quid contribution to a replacement *if* I had a leak (which I don't). dcawkwell - Thanks for your help so far, I really appreciate it. I'm going to get the supply pipe done. It'll...

    Accumulator or Replacement supply pipe?

Hi guys, the pressure gauge arrived so I tested the pressure at the garden tap. It's 2.6 bar ... This is with all taps in the house off. I guess the question now is should I go ahead with a replacement 25mm supply pipe, or isn't it going to make much difference? is there a formula for...

    Accumulator or Replacement supply pipe?

Thanks again. I've ordered this little chap to take the measurement: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0001P0F5O/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1331812241&sr=8-1 Assuming my pressure is low, would this be a suitable contender to pump water into the house...

    Accumulator or Replacement supply pipe?

Thanks for your reply, I guessed that would probably be the first thing to do. Once the main enters the house, all the pipework is 15mm copper, including up to the loft. Does that matter? I guess my question is: upgrading the main supply pipe into the house should in theory have the effect of...

    Accumulator or Replacement supply pipe?

I have an issue with my water supply. I have a combi boiler (no stored hot or cold water) and if a tap is opened (or toilet flushed etc) whilst showering then the shower slows to a trickle. This is extremely frustrating :x The problem is exacerbated by having a loft conversion with an...

    i think i made a mistake

Good advice. I had exactly the same issue. Problem is that the old plaster gets penetrated by the steam and just comes away. I ended up having to build a new partition wall (well, re plaster board and skim, as least) in my Victorian property as few years ago ... I think older properties are...

5kW stove vs. above 5kW stove.

I think you'll be fine doing this yourself, the most challenging part will be working safely on your roof/chimney. I was lucky in that my loft is converted and therefore has a flat roof from which to work. I also used a climbing harness and rope to tie on. Fitting a flue liner and cowl is...

    Stud wall and RSJ

Guys thanks for the replies - this helps a lot. I had not relished the thought of going directly into the steel for obvious reasons. I think I'm going to use adhesive and screw into the plasterboard cladding as advised Thanks again

5kW stove vs. above 5kW stove.

Might also be worth looking to size the stove according to the space you're intending to heat - you might find a 5kw will do fine (and save you a bit of hassle with venting). I mention this because I've recently installed a stove rated at 5kw which seems to kick out an enormous amount of heat...

    Stud wall and RSJ

I need to construct a stud wall which runs directly underneath an (existing) RSJ in a converted loft. How do I attach the head plate to the RSJ? The steel is already clad in in plasterboard - should I remove this to expose the steel in order to attach 4x2 head plate somehow? Thanks in advance

    A fine flush!

Strange question I know, but anyway... I'm redoing my bathroom and am buying a new wc. The existing toilet doesn't flush well, and seems to lack power. Can anyone make any recommendations as to decent syphon/flush mechanisms? My experience is that not all these are created equal! ta

    2 questions: uPVC windows

Good God! Thanks for the above. Are you able to outline how I get the glass unit out? Also, re replacement of the entire window, is that a notifiable building control job, then? Cheers, David
