Best option for hot water supply

Hi, What's currently the best option to supply a bungalow (2 bed, 1 bathroom with shower) with hot water? The place has electric underfloor heating and some panel rads for heating so only need a hot water supply. Ideally on demand and something strong enough to run a decent thermostatic...

Is granite dust ok for potholes?

I read it sets rock hard when dampened and run over with whacker plate. I'll add a little cement in to for good measure and some waterproof to help orivest frost getting in. I tried type 2, but the bag was more like type 1... had stones 40-50mm in size which were too big. This is a farmer's...

What's this and how does it work?

We will look at alternatives yes. Another alternative is unvented hot water cylinder, isn't it? It doesn't solve the cost of electricity problem but as I say happy to suck that up for convenience, will be on economy 7 too. There's 6 solar panels installed already, but fitted wrong place...

What's this and how does it work?

We only need the boiler for hot water for kitchen tap and bathroom taps & shower. Heating will be underfloor heating throughout (ideally). House is fairly well insulated, 350mm in loft, 50mm kingspan in walls (not done yet, may go 100mm).

What's this and how does it work?

Our only option is oil or electric, don't want hassle of oil tank & deliveries so will put up with electric prices.

What's this and how does it work?

Thanks for replies. No, nothing is lagged here at all. I've just moved into the place, a large bungalow. Furthest bathroom is approx 16m away. Kitchen is 5m. Hot water for taps is through this cylinder, both showers are electric and heating is oil boiler. It'll all be coming out within the...

Best timber for DIY hinged garage doors

Hi, Going to be making some hinged doors for a double garage. Looked at buying off the shelf but was getting quotes for £900+ just to supply. What would be best timber to use, I was thinking 18mm exterior grade ply and decking timber for frame, thoroughly treated with wood preserver before hanging.

    Mixing cement with type 1

Will type 2 go hard enough without cement added then?

    Mixing cement with type 1

Cheers. Don't need it to be super hard, just to withstand occasional vehicle traffic without breaking up any time soon.

    Mixing cement with type 1

Evening, Got a load of pothole repairs to do along a track, was going to fill slightly proud with type 1 then whack down with a plate. If I wet it first (just slightly, not soak it) will it compact and go hard like concrete, or should I mix a little cement in first? Was thinking of doing a 1 to...

    Quick question on pressure valves

Thanks, yes it's JG pipe.. I'll check with local BSS inspector first, but pretty confident plastic is ok.

    Quick question on pressure valves

Thanks for reply Madrab. It's a private recreational boat (cabin cruiser), not residential in any way, so I believe it's only governed by Boat Safety Scheme, rather than building regs (but obviously want it done safely regardless). I don't think plastic pipe & fittings are an issue. I've hired...

    Quick question on pressure valves

Hi Just installing a water heater for a boat that's fed from a 3 bar water pump (12v). It's a 30l tank with a 2kw immersion heater in. Fitting a pressure relief valve and expansion vessel but have a couple questions.. do these both go on the cold pipe that feeds the heater tank? I've seen...

Any idea what this is? Fungus?

Got a leak in some flats, from the shower waste in upstairs flat. This photo was taken in hot water cylinder cupboard in downstairs flat when leak is running to. What's the brown stuff? Some sort of fungus? It was soft, damp and easily removed.

2 year old composite door bowing in

Hi Our front door was replace in Jan 2019. It's fine since then, but last week or so we've been having trouble closing it, it doesn't click shut on the latch. Had a look and it's looking bowed in. The top and bottom of the door sit further into the frame than the centre, so it's slightly...

    Heavy mirror... how to hang?

I figured there'd be one there yes, but didnt want to guess, I was worried about drilling holes through wallpaper only to find out I was wrong. Thanks, yes once I think I've found something with the magnet ill use a 2mm bit to confirm.

    Heavy mirror... how to hang?

That's the pro tip I was looking for, I'll give it a go, thanks! I thought about that, but the fixing points on the mirror don't line up with rad mounts. Worse case I could fix a batten to those studs then fix mirror to batten.

    Heavy mirror... how to hang?

Hi This is an internal wall, timber studs with lath & lime plaster, which is fairly old and no good for fixing into. I need to hang quite a heavy mirror on it, but no idea where studs are. I have a couple of stud finders, but find them unreliable. How would you go about it? If I can find the...
