Tile trim around the bath - should it be siliconed after fitting and tiling?

Happy new year everyone. Nope. Bathed wasn't filled when he initially siliconed, nor when the tiler grouted. We've only used the bath once so far and there's definitely cracks appearing, as @ktuludays spotted (they might have got worse since the bath but it's hard to say): No worries...

Tile trim around the bath - should it be siliconed after fitting and tiling?

That's not good to hear :( After having fit the bath, and having applied the silicone around it, the plumber showed me that the walls weren't square and so the silicone width on the right hand side front was wider than the rest. When the tiler he came, he said the best solution was to use one...

Should downpipe connect directly to the running outlet?

Excellent, I'll get one on order then. Thanks for confirming. I thought it was what they were for but then got confused when no one mentioned them on youtube vids I was watching, and instead said the downpipes should connect directly. Cheers

Tile trim around the bath - should it be siliconed after fitting and tiling?

Hi all We recently had a new bath installed. It is surrounded by walls on three sides, and it turned out that one of the walls wasn't square leaving a larger gap. So when it came to tiling, the tiler said it would be best to have a tile trim, the type you put into place before tiling and then...

Should downpipe connect directly to the running outlet?

Hi all I've had to move and reconfigure a downpipe because I've fitted a new kitchen extractor and the vent is slap bang where the downpipe was. The guttering is ogee and the downpipes/bends are square.... I bought a couple of 112.5 degree offset bends, thinking that's all I'd need. The...

Removing hard tile adhesive from walls - any tips?

Thanks for the suggestions. Someone also recommended a long handed scraper. I've just dug around and I have one, the type that takes a 150mm blade. Just given it a whirl and it works pretty well. So elbow grease it is :) And mine at that. Haven't got a wallpaper steamer, but think I could...

Removing hard tile adhesive from walls - any tips?

The jobs continue... This time I'm trying to prep some previously tiled walls (kitchen and bathroom) ready for decorating. The old adhesive is very hard and stuck on very well, especially in the kitchen (the one in the photo that has been painted). I've had a brief go with hammer and chisel but...

How long to leave mortar repairs to dry before covering with filler?

Thank you. It looks to have dried pretty well and is certainly lighter in colour, but to be on the safe side I'll put the filler down and wait a little longer. Wouldn't want to have to do it all again and there's plenty of other jobs to crack on with! Cheers

Insulation between 1st and 2nd floor.

I don't want to put words into @JohnD 's mouth, but I don't think he was suggesting to mimic the effect of socks. Rather, I imagine he was referencing the age old tradition of putting them on your feet. And I must say, the effort of socks - and slippers - on feet is a far simpler and cost...

How long to leave mortar repairs to dry before covering with filler?

Afternoon folks I've been doing some filling around the house. Some of it was quite deep, so I've used mortar for the bulk of it and will finish with filler on top. How long should I wait for the mortar to dry before using the filler? Cheers

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Bit of an aside, but relevant to the post, when using mortar for repairs such as these should the substrate get a coat of PVA first? I was hoping to do it in the morning, and I don't have any PVA, so that will slow things up. But if it makes a lot of difference and is recommended, then I'd...

Light circuit off at consumer board - but RCD / RCCB still tripped

All done with the extractor fan removal and replaced the worn ceiling rose while I was at it. Appreciate all the help that got me there :)

Light circuit off at consumer board - but RCD / RCCB still tripped

Bingo. It was because the cooker was on when it tripped, but wasn't when I tested. Cooker back on and it trips again. So all as it should be. Many thanks

Light circuit off at consumer board - but RCD / RCCB still tripped

I'll leave the job until tomorrow, but couldn't resist testing it out - for my satisfaction :) - and so had a go at touching earth to neutral and nothing happened. Did it with each of the three cables separately and no trip... Any ideas? Ta

Light circuit off at consumer board - but RCD / RCCB still tripped

That's all great to hear and along the lines(ish) of what I hoped was the case. But didn't want to risk it without being certain. In terms of being certain, is it safe to replicate what happened (MCB off, touch earth and neutral and see if it trips again)? Or is there any potential risk...

Light circuit off at consumer board - but RCD / RCCB still tripped

Hi I'm removing an extractor fan from our WC, as it's just a toilet and sink and we never use hot water in there anyway... The extractor is on the light circuit, but has it's own pull cord. I double checked by turning the fan and light on, then switching off the MCB. All good. I triple checked...

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Sorry, but I don't quite follow that. Am interested to know what you mean though. Thanks both for the responses :)

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Thanks :) One other thing... I'm thinking the mortar might not stick so well to the shiny surface of the pipe. Would roughing up the outside of the pipe with sandpaper help or would it not be enough? Heck, could I glue a piece of sandpaper to the outside of the pipe, or would it get too...

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Thanks @JohnD - wasn't ignoring your post, just that our posts crossed to I hadn't seen it. That's some good points RE the cavity. I guess I thought that a small amount of bridging in the top corner wouldn't do any harm but am I wrong? Do I need to avoid it totally and at all costs? RE...

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Thanks. I've used Geocel TheWorks in the past and that's always been good too. So I'll go for that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The hood is around 1.5m away from the hole. There's a very short piece of semi rigid aluminium going up from the hood and that's connected to a plastic...
