Can a new oil CH system still be a good option with the way regulations are moving / have moved ?

Why not ask your "reliable service guy" for his opinion? FWIW mine is: there are over a million oil boilers out there in the UK, mostly in rural areas , you'll be fine on servicing for 10 or 20 years 50 years - who knows, but will it matter to you?

Turn off water. Pry off the small cover on the side of the handle. Unscrew the cross-head brass screw now revealed. Pull off handle. Unscrew cartridge with adjustable wrench on the large hex. Can also use a ratchet with a deep socket if you have a set of these. Support tap body whilst doing...

Reinstalling shower – crumbly brick wall, minimal space for fixing backer boards – advice needed

I've seen this done on "tanking" - working up from a porous wall to to a waterproof final cement-based coat. Also, its my experience that if you mess with plaster/render too early it all falls off again! But plastering is not my trade, so was a suggestion only.

Rear wall stage three: Scatter coat i.e. throw/flick "cast on vigorously" , do not trowel on/off. Just a suggestion.

    Radiator Brackets (Fitting centres)

Don't think there's a problem. You don't need to hit your studs dead centre and anyway there's horizontal play on the bracket position on the radiator nubs. You don't have to use the pre-drilled holes on the bracket, either.

    Toilet flapper valve

Nah, finger pressure on the handle holds the the outflow open; that's shallot. The Fluidmaster version is of USA manufacture; even they eschew "scallions" as a durable component. The french versions come with a certain "je ne sais quoi" hint of wild garlic but that's more to do with the...

Sealing a ceramic cistern on a toilet?

Very much fronded upon to use oxblood today, except in certain Mithraic initiation rituals. Edit - i'm wrong here ; the followers of Mithras slaughtered bulls for sacrifice, not oxen. Replacing the ballvalve is probably the simplest and best solution.

Rain coming into house via logburner flue

Of course not, nor should the flue wobble. Your man's a t**t. Get someone else in to redo the job properly and, for your own sanity, have no further dealings with the original installer. Going after the original installer for the costs of this -and remember your daughter was not the original...

Fitting tap isolators with pre-roughened threads

Loctite 55 cord would be better than PTFE tape. Videos online for how much -its more of a "feel" thing, you want to feel some resistance on the last turn(s). Could use hemp and jointing compound- some people disapprove but the continentals still use, indeed the threads are pre-roughened to help...
