Strange situation discovered while tracking down damp issue

Thanks. Its getting access that's the issue - I know its dry within the cavity just above the ceiling (in the loft) so its coming in lower than that. I'll check the mortar fillets that the end slates have been bedded onto along the edge of the gable. Thanks. I was just wondering what a bridge...

Strange situation discovered while tracking down damp issue

the point is, there is no "out" to run off into as its always been rendered. Admittedly, my focus is on finding the source of the issue. The outer kin also has what appears to be a layer of felt stuck to it (on the inside, of course) as some sort of vertical membrane, though not sure what good...

Strange situation discovered while tracking down damp issue

thanks for the info. why bridge a cavity? with a brick exterior I get that a cavity tray is used, but rendered? There's nowhere for the water to go (ie no weep holes). Anyway, having looked at pics of a boot lintel that's not what I have...the outer skin's lintel is a full 12" high (I can't...

Strange situation discovered while tracking down damp issue

I have rain coming down the inside face of the outer skin of my rendered house. I can JUST about see up into the cavity above the window that is in the damp wall, having removed the plaster from the window reveal. With a torch I can see what I think is a horizontal sheet of what looks like slate...

    Brick Alternatives Please!

Nice...sadly they're even more expensive than the Marshalls ones, so far as I can tell.

    Brick Alternatives Please!

I like the look of Marshalls Old Mill Sunset bricks, but they're pretty expensive (I think so anyway). Do you know of alternatives that have that "cottagey" look to them? Thanks

Glass panels for walkway over pond

I'm looking to build a pond in the garden (where else?) and I thought it'd be cool to have a glass panel basically ON the water that you could walk over (a bridge to the greenhouse, to be exact) Any ideas as to what to search for online? I'm not sure where to start! TIA

Washing Machine Waste coming Up Through Sink

I sorted it out....the issue was the pipe taking it all away was a little too level...I made mods to the whole setup and have a better fall on the system. Cheers guys

Washing Machine Waste coming Up Through Sink

Funny that the sink drains very well, if there's a blockage. I'll take everything to bits and see if I can spot anything. Thanks

Washing Machine Waste coming Up Through Sink

the inlet for the WM is slightly below the level of the waste pipe, as you can perhaps see from the picture....surely the WM is trying to push water uphill...no wonder it can't escape quickly enough...

Washing Machine Waste coming Up Through Sink

As title....I have and when the WM empties it sends pretty foul smelly water up into the sink. I've checked the trap for blockages. How might I modify this so it doesn't stink up the kitchen?

    Foam Guns

I'd never go back to disposable now I've got a gun. The tip of mine blocks when it dries but just scrape off with a knife and you're away. It's never blocked the tube itself. So much more controllable, too.

    Any clever Excel users here?

THANKS. I tried this but for some reason I get an error. I'll take some time later to take a look. I'm not clear on a) the meaning of the curly brackets b) what *(B4:T20>0) does thanks

    Any clever Excel users here?

Simple task: I have a spreadsheet for my golf scores. Along the top I have the par for the hole, then a row for each round. I wish to count the number of par scores on each round. So I thought I could use COUNTIF(range, criteria) but the criteria only seems to allow me to compare to a specific...

    drill size for extractor

I want to drill for an extractor in the bathroom. The hard plastic tube that goes thru the wall is 107mm in diameter (although the installation leaflet says to drill a 100mm hole!). Is it wise to get a 127mm core bit or will the 107mm size be OK (ie do you actually get a slightly bigger hole...

Planning for electrics in shower room

I'm not going to wire it myself, but in terms of planning for the work, will a SELV bathroom fan need RCD protection? Our lighting is on the non-rcd side of the CU but I'm sure I read somewhere that any electrics in a bathroom should be rcd-protected....I would imagine the fan to be connected...
