    Wc waste height woes

Ok thanks, definitely sounds like an option then. You mean bathrooms in general are a god awful job or just fitting back to wall pans?!

They basically want a unit similar to this

    Wc waste height woes

Ok thanks. It's just the current finished floor level to waste pipe centre is about 220/230mm. All the waste outlets for wc's I've been looking at are around 185/195mm.

    Wc waste height woes

Thanks. Would I be able to use one of the these in conjunction with an 'off the self' sink/wc unit?

    Wc waste height woes

Looking at doing a bathroom re fit for my brother in law, this one is in a block of flats on the fifth floor. Will be basically be a complete rip out with new everything. They want a new freestanding wc/basin unit to replace the existing set up, a slightly longer bath with tiled panel and boxed...

    S&c cracking on soft reds

Seems all very strange to me. So the scratch coat, presumably with some form of waterproofer in the mix such as renderguard gold or similar is on? If this has gone on ok, with presumably no 'cracking' then there would be no reason that a second render coat would be problematic. Maybe your...

Battening wall - can I chase first?

No probs, also be sure to put extra noggins in the floor if needed before the ply

Battening wall - can I chase first?

I would personally take the old boards up as they're only fairly thin, and as you say replace them with some 18mm wbp ply. Sbr the underside and edges of ply before you put it down, then screw at 200mm intervals. Then using a cement based flexible adhesive, set your 6mm Marmox boards on to the...

Battening wall - can I chase first?

Your plan above sounds fine. The plasterboard will be fine in a non wet area. Me being me, I would just chuck cement board at it anyway for a belt and braces approach. What currently makes up the floor?

Battening wall - can I chase first?

Are you putting tiles back where you're intending to board? If so, dot and dab 12.5mm cement board to the blocks, then use mechanical fixings such as concrete screws

    Ceilings slope toward outer walls

The 'slopes' you see will be the pitch of the roof. They are visible as the internal ceiling height has had to be made a suitable height

    Packer on worktop. Bad news?

As above, nothing out of the ordinary at all, happens often.

Vinn, you do appear to be a very strange individual.

    Tile layout and spacers question

In my opinion it creates a gap to deal with any movement, which is fairly important. The silicone actually goes in to a gap, rather than just sitting on 2 surfaces, therefore provides a much better seal. Also, if the worktops aren't level, you have some wiggle room by moving tiles up or down...

    Tile layout and spacers question

I would always have a spacer gap between tiles and worktop, this would then be siliconed

    Internal render not set

My opinion is that the water has been sapped out of your mix too quickly

    End panels for kitchen

Best to have cut edge on top, and un cut edge on floor. If for whatever reason you end up with a cut edge on floor, make sure it is properly sealed to avoid moisture ingress. Best saw to use is a rail saw. This will make the job a proper one. If you have to scribe cut, use a decent jigsaw with...

    Bathroom installation order?

Usually you prep everything reading for tiling, I.e sort your tiling substrates out do your first fix plumbing etc. Tile the walls using wooden or metal batten as straight edge usually a tile up off the floor or off the bath (depending on how much of the room you are tiling). Tile the floor...
