    Nest Thermostat E Installation issue

Right, I thought I did it all properly and the Nest E is connected to the Heat Link fine but nothing will turn the boiler no - Changing the temp doesn't and putting the hot water on doesn't. The boiler has no power at all. I terminated all L/N/E wires but I assume that's what's caused it? Do I...

    Nest Thermostat E Installation issue

Oh hang on I think I misunderstood the instructions. So now I think terminate everything in earth/l/n and the black wire in B is NO and the grey wire is COM? And I'm done?! Easy!

    Nest Thermostat E Installation issue

I thought this would be super simple as the E is battery powered so just isolate power and connect the two wires. No instructions I can find have mentioned anything about switches but my existing thermostat has TWO and the Nest install guide can't cope with two. Here is what I see: Could...

    pipe cap in the wall

20cm. I managed to file off a tiny amount and that's all it needed to be able to slide past it. I say slide, I did hear a slight scrape but I can deal with a little scratch on the fridge for the sake of it fitting!

    pipe cap in the wall

Ah I better not just unscrew it then! Cheers all. Not sure what to do. Might just file off a couple mm from the bolt as I am sure it's very close to fitting.

    pipe cap in the wall

Got a new fridge which is slightly older than the last. The wall has a random bolt that stops it fitting. On the other side of the wall is an enclosed space where the downpipe is from upstairs. There looks like a hot water pipe going into the wall where the bolt is. Does anyone recognise the...

    shed roofing felt upside down

Cheers! Never heard of shed shingles. They do look great. Could I just lay them over the felt or would it need to come off first?

    shed roofing felt upside down

Assembled my first shed yesterday. Quite proud. Very level. Only trouble is as I was tacking in the second layer of felt (seen on the front) I noticed it had sparkly bits on top and the other side didn't. Nothing in the instructions about which side goes on top so I had just not thought about...

    Preparing ground for a shed

Cheers those look very handy. I'll get some if it's not level. Just been to look at the slabs and it seems like the central ones may cause it to not be level. If I remove those and just have the outside ones that should still be fine if it means it's level? As the struts of the wooden base...

    Preparing ground for a shed

I removed my old shed which was laid on this concrete. I bought a wooden base for the new shed which is coming in a few days. This is the base: https://www.sheds.co.uk/adley-wooden-shed-base.html Is it safe to assume I can just lay that base over the concrete and that's it? The concrete isn't...

Wiring Nest Protect to lighting circuit

Yeah I think I will do that just so I can get it done today but when I can get to Screwfix I could definitely do with getting something a bit bigger and sorting out all the cabling so it's neat. Feeling quite pleased with myself so far. I've changed face plates, I've added a wired smoke alarm...

Wiring Nest Protect to lighting circuit

Ignore my last post as I have now gotten some T&E. Here's what's inside that junction box. The two with the blue tape feed the two upstairs lights. I assume my notes are correct and I can safetly connect the smoke alarm to L and N? Will get a new junction box as well.

Wiring Nest Protect to lighting circuit

Have only found 2 core stranded 0.75mm elec cable. Will that do? Will have to wait bloody ages for delivery otherwise.

Wiring Nest Protect to lighting circuit

Cheers! Got any recommendations for a new box that will easily fit 6 cables? Definitely need to tidy everything up up there.

Wiring Nest Protect to lighting circuit

I quite like the idea of a wired Nest Protect mainly because I'm a geek but also the nightlight feature will come in handy. For that reason I think I would rather wired than battery. Am I right in thinking what I need to do is run a 3-core (or 2?) wire from that junction box on the left to the...

Safe to leave ceiling lights like this?

This is correct. Just my crappy photo being a bit misleading. All sorted now. I managed to get the broken rose out and there was actually quite a bit to play with. The light that's replacing it ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01L99HC2Y/ ) has a slight void at the top that I thought about...

Safe to leave ceiling lights like this?

Thanks. I will take it all out. I have wago connectors that I assume will be good for tidying all that up?

Safe to leave ceiling lights like this?

I have a ceiling light that I just took down. This is what it looks like underneath: I don't really get what's going on here. Have they just not bothered removing the old rose so just left it in the void, broken in two, for the earth? And the new one just for the two wire feed. The old...
