Hi guys,
I currently work in the chemical industry and due to redundancy I am going to retrain to enable me to go self employed.
My plan is to get certified in electrical (I am already time served electrician) and train up to get certified in Gas, which will then be GasSafe instead of Corgi...
Sorry for the late feedback.
So ~I checked the tappings and they where clear. I decided to buy the diaphragm. Strangely it is called a dp switch and not a flow switch, I know they are one and the same in this instance but the lad in PTS didn't know what he was talking about and it took ages...
Thanks alot guys.
I went down today to have another look at the boiler.
Set it up for HW only - put in the fuse - turned on the timer and the boiler fired up. YIPPEEEEEE.
I took the opportunity to do some electrical testing while I was there and all seems good.
The valve actuator is...
Mandate,
I suspect your right. I have gone through the wiring diagram and unless I am missing something the "HW only~" is irrelevant of the micro switches.
I will go down again tomorrow and check if there is a live to the boiler when HW is demanded.
If there is a live is it safe to...
Unlike most people I like a "know it all" ! :P Well done.
SO am I right that by replacing the actuator/micro switch the system will fire up all toasty and warm. ?????
It seems the motorised valve is not moving so not getting over to HW select and the micro switch on the CH side is actually burnt out, physically burnt out.
Does this make sense ?
I didn't check whether the gas valve had 240v on it though.
I hope there isn't another issue.
When I...
Thanks alot guys.
From your descriptions I managed to get it down to the Danfoss HS3 valve. The micro switch connected to the orange wire has burnt out.
Thanks for your help.
Where is best to buy one, the valve itself is ok, just the actuator assembly needs replacing.
Thanks gas4u.
Is there a wiring diagram I could look through to get it clear in my head, ie what initiates the signal to the boiler to light, micro switiches etc, valve position.
Defo not that.
"Check the 3 port valve head if everything else is calling for heat.
Sounds like the microswitch has broken in it."
If the 3 port valve was broken wouldn't the boiler still fire up ?
Hi,
I got a phone from my father in law last night.
His central heating isnt working ! It is a back boiler set up, Y plan I think.
Nothing fires up the boiler, although the pilot is lit.
Any tips on where to start would be great guys, thanks.
Alan
Gaz,
thanks for the reply.
How would you check the diaphragm ? I visually had a look and couldn't see any damage or splits from the lp side. I didn't remove it though, I didn't want to break the seal. AM I right in thinking if it was the diaphragm the switch just wouldn't operate ?
When...
As the title suggests my Baxi instant water is not getting hot.
I suspect the flow switch which I have dismantled, cleaned up and rebuilt.
I didn't remove the diaphragm when I cleaned it up and it still seems to be a bit stiff/slow operating when the hot water tap is opened.
My question...
Thanks.
DOH. I should have thought about that.....
I doubt I will go the gas fitter route until I get stuck. I am not totally incompetant on this though, I do work in engineering, just not on the gas side.
Thanks
