    tips on sanding floor

Yes thankyou. That is a lot of help. So, I'll rent an obital sander, and I guess I'll need the small one too for the edgaes and corners? Since it's orbital, should I go up and down the hall against the grain? I guess it doesn't matter since it's orbital. I think they offered me 3 grades...

    tips on sanding floor

Hi all, I have a small hallway about 3.5m long with varying widths between 1 and 2m. It's a very uneven shape. It was carpeted and led onto 2 rooms with bare boards varnished with antique pine. I had heard sanding a floor was a technically easy job, just unpleasant. So I pulled up...

    uneven lawn

Thanks for the help. Since I don't drive I'll try to find a place that delivers 'sandy loam'. A few more questions: 1) Is that simply a kind of fine sandy soil? 2) How much would I need for a lawn 5m x 15m? 3) I imagine the process is to: shovel the soil over the lawn and use...

no power to cables behind light switch

Hi guys, Back again after a bit of a break. Reading through the comments I'm afraid I'm a little confused as to what to do next. Can I ask: 1) Did I have the multimeter on the correct setting? 2) Should I test the resistence at the switch and/or the light fitting? If so, which...

    uneven lawn

Hi all, My lawn is very uneven and I think this is helping to make the grass incredibly patchy. The light isn't great as it's SE facing but when you compare it to the neighbours it looks awful. Can I level out the garden myself? and how would I go about this? And once levelled should I...

no power to cables behind light switch

Hi all, and happy new year! I'm back again. I've just tested the cables with a multimeter. Here's a pic of the setting I used which I think is right... I tested it on another working socket and it gave a reading of 232. On the superswitch's socket it gave 0 between red and earth...

no power to cables behind light switch

I've just checked out the local hardware store and they were £17 for analogue, £30 for digital. I'll look around and see if I can find cheaper.... Meanwhile, if there is no power behind the switch, what would be my next course of action? thanks

can i get a brighter solution for the dining room light?

well it's only a musterdy/yellowy colour. i really like it so i want to keep the colour. but yes, it has been said we used too many darker colours for a dark room. so i'll go with one of those cheaper, powerful, energy saving bulbs as i posted above. thanks for all your help guys. :D

no power to cables behind light switch

Sorry for the late reply. Will I need a voltage tester? I have a screwdriver that is supposed to detect power, but stupidly I lost the instructions, so I have no idea what it's trying to tell me. So I don't ever use it. I thought the fact that a working switch didn't work and that the...
