Told I need to have Ze checked, an R1+R2 test, and possibly downrate a 40A fuse to 32A - any way to save money here?

Thanks - I just checked and we're with UK Power Networks (great name!). Sadly it seems I do need to pay an electrician anyway - I've attached a list of checks they need before they attend.

Looking for ways to maintain notifications from a Risco GT-600 after move to fibre

I guess there's no harm in just trying the ATA. Regarding the line monitor - the old copper line is still physically attached but the service has stopped. Are you saying the alarm might go off if the physical connection is removed?

Told I need to have Ze checked, an R1+R2 test, and possibly downrate a 40A fuse to 32A - any way to save money here?

Thanks for your help. Have attached photos - it's a hideous mess and I can't wait for the day we replace it.

Told I need to have Ze checked, an R1+R2 test, and possibly downrate a 40A fuse to 32A - any way to save money here?

Recently our induction hob broke, so I bought a new one thinking it would be a drop in replacement. The circuit has a dedicated 40A breaker. When I wired it up, it simply wouldn't switch on. We got a replacement for that and... same thing. So the third one we paid extra for John Lewis to...

Looking for ways to maintain notifications from a Risco GT-600 after move to fibre

Sorry I see what you mean. No - I've not had a chance to get over there. I can ask them to try, but I asked the alarm company that maintains it and they said VoCOM wouldn't work with a VoIP adapter. If it's that simple, then great!

Looking for ways to maintain notifications from a Risco GT-600 after move to fibre

No - there's no landline now. They were on TalkTalk but the landline number was tied to their broadband contract. That's now been ported over to a VoIP with an ATA to adapt their old DECT phone.

Looking for ways to maintain notifications from a Risco GT-600 after move to fibre

My folks recently moved to a fibre connection, and didn't realise their alarm system would then no longer be able to call them. I don't really know anything about alarm systems (in my own home rely on internet-connected cameras) - but looking at the box there's a panel that Google images says...

60A main fuse blew last night...

Actually EDF guy mentioned showers - and nope, we have an unvented cylinder/gas boiler setup, so showers just run at mains pressure.

60A main fuse blew last night...

Biggest things I had on were washing machine and dryer (separate). Had some lights on, fridge/freezer. Didn't coincide with me turning anything on (unless the fridge went kicked in) Obviously I'm not an electrician, so my simple question is - is the only way for the fuse to blow to draw more...

60A main fuse blew last night...

EDF guy came 'round - replaced the fuse, but seemed VERY suspicious I'd done something. "What were you doing?", he insisted. "They don't just blow" So, question is, what did happen? Was he right? Does it indicate sometging fundamentally broken? Odd that the 'cartridge' fuse should blow...

Advice on what type of new wooden floor

Thanks for input. We had kind of settled on 190mm wide walnut with an oil finish. We saw samples we liked, and a price of about £75 psm inc vat. But they then said it was grade ABCD - I looked into this more, and apparently that means it would be 'very rustic' Looking for what seems to...

Advice on what type of new wooden floor

Looking at the sample he gave us, the latter. The solid layer looks to be just under a centimetre. I've heard of 14mm - is that necessarily better? Does it simply give you a few more sandings? How many sandings would 7mm give you? Also - is it advisable to screw/glue even if not...

Advice on what type of new wooden floor

Looking for a new wooden floor. Some questions 1) Engineered vs solid: Will be laid in an open plan room that includes the kitchen and we also want quite wide board. Apparently for both these reasons man in shop recommended 7mm engineered, to limit expansion. The cost of the oak one was £70...

Rad temp dial broken off Vaillant EcoTech

Wow! That worked. Thanks:) Just a case of getting a new unit I suppose. Thanks for everyone's help.

Rad temp dial broken off Vaillant EcoTech

That looks like what he's done - but seems weird to me. Why would you have to have heating on to get hot water? Is that just an inherent limitation of using a combi boiler as a system boiler? Would it be the case that the boiler has to feed the radiators and the coil in the tank at the same...

Rad temp dial broken off Vaillant EcoTech

Thanks for prompt response. Although it is a combi, I think you're right, they are using it as a system boiler, as they decided they needed to add an unvented tank and accumulator/pump because the water pressure was too low for combi. As for the dial, we still have the dial itself, but just...

Rad temp dial broken off Vaillant EcoTech

Hi there The bottom left dial has broken off - but it doesn't obviously seem to be broken, so wondering if the end is simply glued to the armature inside, or maybe some clip that's dropped down inside? As an aside, it's a new plumbing system (at a friends house), and since he turned...

Cooker hoods suspended on wires (like Elica Evolution)

The place where we'd like our cooker hood has a ceiling that's 3.8m high. Although it would mean getting a recirculation model, we like the look of the Elica Evolution ones that just hang on wires. We've not seen any regular style ones that are tall enough to reach. Only problem with the...

    Minimum socket height

In terms of appearance or access? Definitely the former IMO. 10cm is about another socket's height. To me, it just seems to make a feature of the socket when it's so high above skirting.
