Garden Gate - Paint or preservative?

Some excellent advice there folks, I knew I'd come to the right place. Yes it is the size of a door. The original one is falling apart, it's made from some type of nasty fibreboard. The hinges are perfect, will re-use as I'm on a tight budget. There's also already a header so at least the...

Garden Gate - Paint or preservative?

I wasn't sure whether this question ought to go in this forum or the one for woodwork. I'll try here first. We are replacing a wooden side gate and frame which leads onto the street. It's just a bog standard, cheapo, planked softwood door/gate, which we want to protect from the elements...

    Who do I call?

that never occurred to me big-all In my search someone mentioned not using WD40 in locks as it attracts dust (our locksmith pooh poohed that btw  ) but to use graphite instead. Can anyone vouch for that advice?

    Who do I call?

Cheers Prenticeboy. I rang a locksmith in the end after chatting with the neighbour's builder (who had a look himself first). He's now been and gone (bank balance now £150 lighter  ) Bit had sheared off inside. He chatted longer than the job took

    Who do I call?

Hi all, My back door upvc handle mechanism has seized. It's the type which you pull up first to to lock and pull down to open once unlocked. Problem is it won't pull down to open. It won't go further than the horizontal position. Arrghh got washing that needs to be put on the...

Major re-plastering job or can it be painted over? Piccies

This wall is ground floor, internal and nowhere near pipework. Both my room and the neighbours' are back living rooms. So any plumbing/pipework etc is located way away. I don't think that is an issue. The guttering outside appears to be doing its job. No idea what's going on in the...

Major re-plastering job or can it be painted over? Piccies

 Yup, that's what I was afraid of! No, it's quite near the corner of the room so not where a fireplace used to be. Yeah I was aware that I was just trying to cover up the problem and hope it would go away

    Neighbours' builders using our garden

They have, and I've locked the gate behind them. They've spent the day pointing the chimney so at lease there is a reason for the scaffold to still be there.

Major re-plastering job or can it be painted over? Piccies

I hope someone can advise me. We've had a little damp problem in our living room for a few years now. It started with the paint blistering. I sanded it down, slapped on a bit of damp seal and painted over it. It seemed to do the trick for a while. It is an internal party wall and the patch is...

    Neighbours' builders using our garden

Well just spoke to Dave the boss. I understand that the delay is due to the rain as they can not paint the render (wasn't raining yesterday!). Fair enough. Just seeing 2 days of inactivity got me incensed. He is aware of our unhappiness. He has reassured me they will aim to paint it either...

    Neighbours' builders using our garden

Hi John D, only problem with that is, the scaffold is needed to paint the render, so expecting them to remove it now would be a tad impractical! Yes I know we should have spoken to the neighbours after the 2 weeks, but we were willing to put up with the delays when they were being productive...

    Neighbours' builders using our garden

Hello, can anyone help with a situation? Over a month ago we agreed to let out neighbours have access to our garden for their builders to re-render the side of their wall. It has involved removing a pergola and uprooting some plants for them to erect scaffold. We agreed as we wanted to keep...
