Elec oven and cooker hood connected with plugs

Hi I was hoping i could get some advice. I've been asked to move a kitchen from upstairs to downstairs as the property was a shop but the new owner wants to turn it into a standard house. Now the job seemed straightforward, i would do the plumbing and carpentry and get an electrician in to...

    DIY gas

Why do some people say its OK to work on gas as long as you know what you are doing and can get a gas safe engineer to sign it off? I've come across this a lot recently, guys not gas safe, do the gas work, then a gas safe mate comes and signs it off for 40 quid. It appears the law is either lax...

No heat to radiators after adding flushing fluid.

I'm going to get shot down for telling you this but look for this mechanism in your boiler, if its got a black level, lift if for a few seconds, you'll hear it dump out a bit of water and air into the overflow pipe. If its a red/black knob, turn it a bit to release bit of air and water, then...

    Sink slow to drain

I went out a couple of weeks back to deal with the exact same problem. Basin was slow to drain. Checked traps etc, they were clear, looked almost new. However the pipework was a mess. went out the waste horizontally about a foot, then down, below the toilet cistern, then up again about 4 inches...

    Bath waste problems help

I was thinking the same. Why not just remove one row of tiles above bath, you may have to cut the tiles a couple of inches but its without doubt the easiest and cheapest method. Not ideal, but you really should never assume anything will fit when starting a job. Measure, measure and measure again.

    basin water mixer michanisms

Hi all I've had a customer who wants me to fit a two tap mixer onto his basin. I've had a look around and these are very rare, the few that do exist are very expensive. However i was working on a house a while back where they had two standard taps on the basin, but below the basin, the...

    procedures for laying porcelin tiles?

Thanks Richard for your reply, its much appreiated and a lot of good tips you've provided. Just one more question, what size of tile spacers should i use for porcelin tiles? I've noticed in the shop displays that they seem to have a thinner grout line then ceramic tiles. I'm assuming 2mm or 3mm...

Raging hot pump, warm rads downstairs, cold rads upstairs

Listen i've done this several times in recent weeks and each time its solved the problem of rads not heating up/no flow in system. You may advise an expensive powerflush, and a new combination boiler and advise them your mate needs to also build them a new boiler room. But i prefer to get...

Have I been rinsed by unnecessary power flushing???

In regards to OP and how they have been done over, this is what really p!sses me off about some in this trade who rip people off. Firstly a powerflush at 600 for 7 rads is a complete rip off. To make matters worse it almost certainly was not needed. The solution appears to be a diverter valve...

Changed Towel Rad, now heating not working

On the Ferroli the A3 error indicates circulation/flow issue or pumping issue. The likely cause again is air trapped in the system. There are a couple of things you can try. 1st drained down system, and refil slowly. Bleed rads. This may remove any stubborn trapped air. If this fails and if...

Raging hot pump, warm rads downstairs, cold rads upstairs

By the sounds of it you have air trapped in the system. It was working fine before you drained down, problems only started since working on system. Since you have probably already bled the rads, the only other area air will likely be trapped is in the boiler itself. Take of the boiler cover...
