You can't take the supply from two different circuits that would be very dangerous. It should be supplied via a 3A fused spur and preferably off a ring main.

Is this a separate light switch on its own? How do you know the two black wires are neutrals? Are they connected together in a connector at the back of the switch?

Apparently, it's the child-proof lock that locks up the machine (according to another site). The answer appears to hold down the "no heat dry" button for four seconds or more to clear it. HTH

Try using it on a thin piece of cardboard (cornflake package ideal), then it should slide over more easily without compromising its ability.

The first thing to do is to check to make sure there is no neutral as Plugwash says. Have a look in the switch to see if there is a connector at the back of the switch with a couple of black (or blue) wires connected up. If so you would be really lucky as these would be the neutrals.

If there is a FCU intended for the fire, the flex will be heat resistant. Not T & E.

It is quite common nowadays to have the cable going into the switch first with the neutrals connected in the back via strip connectors.

It could be something outside of your premises. Have your neighbours had a similar experience? Has any work been carried out out on the cables or transformers near-by?

Could you try slipping some flexible conduit over the cable?
