    smaller than averagge doors

Come on boys, I gave you a day or two to come up with the answer, must try harder  You can get a Magnaseal, sapele or ply at 1981 x 711 from Magnet if flush or single panel doors are what the OP wants If a 4 or six panel door then ou would have even less to trim off the width of a...

Trying to find some jack or small acro prop for a 600mm job

You can get what are called trench props, these are very similar to acros just shorter and with a smaller plate on teh end. http://www.brandontoolhire.co.uk/directory/prodView.asp?idproduct=62 As for jacks then a "Hi-lift" or "Jack-all" will do assuming there are no floorboards to get in...

Grout for hearth tiles: what is fondue cement?

To me this is a different type of grouting. Fondu is used to set the hold down bolt into the foundations for steel structures and then fill under the stanchion bases when they have been shimmed & leveled. You would be far better going to your local tile shop and seeking their advice as to the...

    'Lining Out' a Fireplace

Probably easiest to use some plasterboard and stick it with plasterboard adhesive. If you set one of the board edges flush with teh surrounding plaster it will give you an edge to makegood to. You can paint straight onto the plasterboard so no need to skim it. Don't forget a vent hole to keep...

    Unsprung Door Knobs

Put a proper mortice latch in not a cheap tubular latch, may take longer to fix but it will have a better spring and last longer. Something like this if the handle height falls within the mid rail, ignore the keyhole they us the same case for both locks & latches . Or if the knob is in the...

    a new axe

As its cold tonight, if you stand under a brass monkey you may be able to catch a couple of replacements as they fall off  Back to Lolas question which I'm sure was serious as there are quite a few chippies that use an axe to good effect, in the right hands and properly sharpened its...

Core / drill 140mm dia into deep solid Concrete foundation.

Drill it out with a core drill and then use a kango to break out the material in the middle. You don't want to be using one of the handheld drills for this it will take forever, get a proper Hilti core drilling rig with water cooling, they can be hired or best to get a specialist company in...

Painting MDF - A Slightly More Involved Finish Than Usual

The fact you said "the rest of the room is painted with F&B Masonary paint" You can certainly spray it with Their emulsions but you need an airless sprayer, if you try thinning it enough for high pressure or HVLP it will be very watery and the moisture will keep raising the "grian" of the MDF...

    Double sprung hinges .. . .

IT makes no difference where the holes are, just make sure you turn it the right way to increase spring pressure. What does make a difference is removing a fire door and fitting these type of hinges to a fire rated opening as there is effectively no stop. Jason

Painting MDF - A Slightly More Involved Finish Than Usual

I would say its all painted exactly the same and its just the way the light is falling on the surface that gives the look of a different colour certainly on the first couple of images If you want it to look like image 4 then once sprayed use a lightly loaded foam 4" roller to pick up the...

    Dimensionally Stable Door

A dimensionally stable door would tend to have a made up core either from laminating strips of solid timber together or chipboard, this would then be veneered. A non stable door would be built in the traditional way with styles, rails and panels all from single pieces of solid timber which...
