a new axe

I'm writing my letter to santa and asking him for a new axe. My old stanley has been ok but now it's so worn down it barely holds a edge and the handle is bound with gaffer tape (yes I know but don't we all do that?)
Ah but which one to ask for? I quite like the Estwings but how about others? I've had a look around

screwfix also do a range of forgesteel axes ranging from about £8 up to £14 but I've dismissed them. The only forgesteel tool I've tried is the boat level which after light use is now 7mm out in it's own lenght!

I'm used to using an axe quite often and it never leaves my kit, it gets used for scribbing , doweling , thinning and a million a one other jobs, it's even eased doors so I'm looking for something decent and just thought I'd see what people on here think.

Have a look at some of the ones Dick sell I've had quite a few bits from them though not my axe, thats a sandvik and thats good enough to sharpen my pencil with.

Deluks-I've worked in quite a few castles but to the best of my knowledge none have been the home of the undead, and whilist I don't generally make a habit of easing with an axe sometimes it's just easier than fannying around finding a lead and power tools setting it up and finding it's tripped so I have to walk all the way down to the tranny and........

As its cold tonight, if you stand under a brass monkey you may be able to catch a couple of replacements as they fall off

Back to Lolas question which I'm sure was serious as there are quite a few chippies that use an axe to good effect, in the right hands and properly sharpened its surprising what you can do with them.

Very nice link Jason. I might just invest in the sawblade for cutting fretboards now. Probably have to make a jig up to use the circular though.

when i was an apprentice thye old boy a worked with bought me an estwing axe for being a good boy lol, that was over 16 years ago, and although it it dosent get used as often as it once did, it still holds a good edge, so i'de have to recomend the estwing

Yes I like them too, I've used one , maybe a little lighter than some but still good.
