Hi - We have a standard open vented CH/HW system powered by a new WB boiler - We are now looking to replace the HW cylinder as its a touch small now we have grown the family and added a bathroom into the loft. The airing cupboard will only accommodate a 500mm width tank so i am finding my...

    Bi-Fold Doors - 'Traffic Door'

all the bi-folds we are aware of in friends houses are aluminum and i think modern ones look smart and are not cold. We have been advised by all builders, completely separately, to avoid wooden bi-folds as over a few years they'll change shape and not run true and generally be a pain. I...

    Bi-Fold Doors - 'Traffic Door'

yep - thanks for the replies and after some digging it seems that doors fold in pairs therefore if you have an odd number of panels then you have a 'traffic' door that opens and slides with the rest. If you have an even number of panels then the traffic door opens on its own and is fixed and the...

    Bi-Fold Doors - 'Traffic Door'

We are getting Alu Bi-Fold doors and are looking at if we need what seems to be called a traffic door. I thought this door opened on its own but could also fold and slide with the rest of the doors but i am hearing that the traffic door gets left behind and hinges on its own on one side and then...

Thames Water - Buildover agreement for sewer not on my land

common sense prevailed - after submitting some drawings to TW and speaking directly to one of their build over engineers rather than someone in the call center and they have agreed we do not need one and have provided documentation to the same. Which is a good result thanks

Thames Water - Buildover agreement for sewer not on my land

So i am now really confused as the building inspector has come around and said there is no evidence of a sewer and to 'not worry about it' - I wonder if Thames Water can email me the map where they think this sewer is? thanks

Thames Water - Buildover agreement for sewer not on my land

Hi We are in the first stages of building a rear extension on the back of our house and have been granted planning and in fact the footings are almost dug. We now discover some communications from Thames Water to our Building Inspector telling us we need to have a build over agreement for a...

Gas Meter Move - New Location

thanks for the info - with regard to running the external pipework to the boiler, any piping that is FROM the meter can be done by a gas safe engineer but anything involved BEFORE the meter has to be done by the SGN engineer ?

Gas Meter Move - New Location

Hi I am trying to get info about where my gas meter can be relocated to due to the current external wall which houses the box being demolished due to an extension. I am in an SGN area and they seem reluctant to do a site visit without me committing to the move timescales, but i cant do that...

    'Running' Toilet

because i removed it to take a photo, if i didnt the lid would not sit flush on the toilet lid and most likely fall onto the floor and damage it/floor

    'Running' Toilet

Hi The cistern in the loft runs after being flushed until the flush 'cable' is moved a bit at which point it stops running and starts to fill. This toilet is newish and has a cable operated flush and the fact that wobbling it slightly makes it fill i guess something is getting stuck somewhere...

Flat Roof - Whats happened here

well it was part of a bigger job however it was not inexpensive in the slightest therefore i am going to take it up with the guy as i think that, even if it does not effect the functioning of the roof, it looks crap.

Flat Roof - Whats happened here

there was scaffold up so i dont recall ladders ever being used, mind you its pretty high up so i doubt you'd want ladders up there anyhow. Looks like the felt has been over heated or something ?

Flat Roof - Whats happened here

We had our loft converted and part of that was covered by a flat roof. I dont think this has been caused by the warmer weather but today i see this on the edge of the flat roof. Does anyone know what the problem is and will it effect the roof in any way? The roof has been in place since...
