Solid wood flooring, Plywood/Fibreboard and underlay

Hi yes, I will secret screw with tongue tite. Is it ok to nail the plywood down? And does plywood need the same 10mm expansion gaps around the edges of the room as the solid flooring?

Solid wood flooring, Plywood/Fibreboard and underlay

Hi, a couple of simple questions. I have a pine subfloor which runs in the same direction as the solid wood flooring I am laying down. So, I'm told I need to use 5-6mm plywood or hardboard over it to make the floor as level as possible. 1 - Can I use underlay such as the fancy foil stuff...

Removed old skirting, now left with gap above and behind

I don't really like very tall skirting and it would look out of place in the room so gonna take your latter advice. Do I just apply the plaster onto the PVA covered wall? Does it need any reinforcement e.g. mesh?

Removed old skirting, now left with gap above and behind

Hello all. I'm renovating the bedroom in my late Victorian house, but never done much DIY beyond putting up shelves and fitting a nightlatch, but definitively got the enthusiasm and motivation to see a job well done with my own hands. Apologies if the questions seem stupid.. I've pulled...

Renovating room - question about floors

Hi All, I'm stripping out the master bedroom down to the pine floorboards of a circa 1900 Victorian terrace, intend to re-lay them to get rid of gaps, sand them down, remove and replace skirting. I've got some questions though since I'm just a beginner. 1. Do these floorboards look OK or...

    uPVC door not locking/engaging

Before buying a new lock, I thought I'd check out the multipoint lock. I unscrewed it took it off the door, and eventually got the mechanism to lock by wiggling the handle around. I reckon it must have been debris/dirt stones in the mechanism. Then I sprayed it with GT85 lubricant. It's not...

    uPVC door not locking/engaging

Hi, I have a Saracen multi point door lock for the garden, with “032” mark on it. It has 2 hooks, 1 deadbolt, and 2 roller cams. When I turn the doorhandle up (with the door ajar), the hook and roller cam at the bottom comes out a little, deadbolt in the middle comes out about 5mm, and the...

Dual-flush toilet - Very weak flush & whistling noise

I don't know if it's 6 litres or not, but it's filling just below (a few mm) the water level mark, which is marked as SLPF/1 and then some other word but I can't read it. And yes, when I flush number 2 I hold down the button for a few seconds.

Dual-flush toilet - Very weak flush & whistling noise

Hi, I have two identical dual flush toilets (before I moved in). The downstairs one is fine, but with the upstairs one the flush (even for number 2's) is very weak, it doesn't even manage too remove urine entirely. It's a dual push button flush with the button on the top. How do I fix it...

    Leaking outdoor tap

Hi, I have a leaking outdoor tap that leaks out of the points marked A and B (see pic). It only leaks when the water is coming out and is under pressure (i.e. open the tap and have a hose + spray gun attached). How do I fix this? Thank you!
